Alcohol Consumption and Cerebral Small- and Large-Vessel Diseases: A Mendelian Randomization Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest a positive association of alcohol consumption with risk of cerebral SVDs and its inverse association with risk of large-vessel disease through intermediaries, such as hypertension or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. CONCLUSION: There are gender differences in the influencing factors for CMBs in AIS patients. Sex differences and risk factors in recurrent ischemic stroke
ConclusionHypertension and dyslipidemia were significant risk factors of recurrent ischemic stroke in both genders. Smoking and alcohol drinking were significant risk factors associated with ischemic stroke recurrence in males. Therefore, smoking cessation and alcohol abstinence are recommended after the first stroke to prevent recurrent ischemic stroke especially for males. Wernicke Encephalopathy Mimicking MELAS
CONCLUSIONS: the case suggests that thiamine deficiency presumably causes mitochondrial dysfunction with cerebrospinal fluid lactic acidosis and a stroke-like lesion mimicking MELAS syndrome.
