Anticoagulation use and the risk of stroke and major bleeding in patients on hemodialysis: From the VIVALDI, a population-based prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Although the non-randomized nature of the study is prone to bias, anticoagulation with VKA was not associated with decreased thromboembolic risk, but associated with increased risk of major bleeding and may be net-harmful to patients with AF on HD.PMID:34418291 | DOI:10.1111/jth.15508

Serum Alkaline Phosphatase Levels and Increased Risk of Brain Hemorrhage in Hemodialysis Patients: The Q-Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Higher serum ALP levels are associated with an increased risk of brain hemorrhage, but not brain infarction, in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis. High serum ALP level is thus an important risk factor for brain hemorrhage in hemodialysis patients.PMID:34108341 | DOI:10.5551/jat.62885

Acute upper limb ischemia as a complication of tunneled hemodialysis catheter placement via the right internal jugular vein
J Vasc Access. 2021 May 7:11297298211015041. doi: 10.1177/11297298211015041. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTArterial injury during internal jugular vein cannulation can cause devastating complications such as stroke, hematoma, hemothorax, pseudoaneurysm, AV fistula, or even death. Acute upper limb ischemia caused by inadvertent arterial puncture during internal jugular vein cannulation has been rarely reported. The present report describes the case of a patient who experienced right upper limb ischemia caused by subclavian artery thrombosis developed during attempted placement of a tunneled hemodialysis catheter via the rig...

Ramipril and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis: The ARCADIA Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Ramipril did not reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients on maintenance hemodialysis.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY NAME AND REGISTRATION NUMBER: ARCADIA, NCT00985322 and European Union Drug Regulating Authorities Clinical Trials Database number 2008-003529-17.PMID:33782036 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.12940820

Impact of Multivascular Disease on Cardiovascular Mortality and Morbidity in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis: Ten-Year Outcomes of the Q-Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: This study clearly demonstrated that multivascular disease was a powerful predictor for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients receiving hemodialysis. PMID: 32684556 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Independent Factors for In-Hospital Death Following Drug-Eluting Stent Thrombosis From the Japanese Adverse Event Report System.
CONCLUSIONS: LMT, CHF, hemodialysis, prior stroke, and older age were independently associated with higher risk of in-hospital death following DES-ST. If target patients have these factors, maximum preventive strategies against ST occurrence, including adequate dual-antiplatelet therapy duration and optimal DES deployment procedures, are required.
