Angiographic Baseline Proximal Thrombus Appearance of M1/M2 Occlusions in Mechanical Thrombectomy
ConclusionBaseline cut off thrombus appearance predicts a  higher number of thrombectomy maneuvers. In day to day practice this may prepare the neurointerventionalist for a more challenging endovascular procedure ahead. Stroke etiology, clinical outcomes and thrombus-specific characteristics did not show any associations with the thrombus appearance.

Janssen Submits New Drug Application to U.S. FDA for XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) to Help Prevent and Treat Blood Clots in Pediatric Patients
RARITAN, NJ, June 23, 2021 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson announced today it has submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the use of XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) in pediatric patients. The NDA seeks two pediatric indications: treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE, or blood clots) and reduction in the risk of recurrent VTE in patients aged birth to less than 18 years of age after at least five days of initial parenteral anticoagulant treatment; and thromboprophylaxis (prevention of blood clots) in patients aged 2 years and older with congenita...

Carotid Artery Free-Floating Thrombus Caused by Paradoxical Embolization From Greater Saphenous Vein Ascending Thrombophlebitis
We report a case of a young woman without cardiovascular risk factors who was admitted to our emergency department with listlessness and altered mental status. The clinical examination revealed right lower limb swelling. Magnetic resonance imaging and contrast-enhanced computed tomographic scans revealed a free floating thrombus of the left internal carotid artery (ICA) with a large bilateral frontal ischemic lesion. The diagnosis of a medium-sized PFO with moderate right-to-left contrast shunting was made after transesophageal echocardiography. No other cardiac sources for embolization were detected, while an ascending th...

Posterior Circulation Occlusions May Be Associated with Distal Emboli During Thrombectomy
ConclusionPosterior circulation occlusions were significantly associated with distal emboli during thrombectomy, possibly due to the lack of flow arrest during such procedures. New techniques and devices should be developed to protect against embolic complications during posterior circulation stroke thrombectomy.

A Serious Diagnosis Lacking Common Symptoms
BY JENNIFER TUONG; IVAN KHARCHENKO; JEAN LUC AGARD; & AHMED RAZIUDDIN, MDA 65-year-old man who had HIV well-controlled with highly active antiretroviral therapy, hypertension, sciatica, and restless leg syndrome presented to the emergency department with left leg pain. He also had had chemotherapy and radiation for anal cancer. The patient said the pain had started 45 minutes earlier when he was sitting on the toilet. He described the pain as sore in quality and 10/10 on the pain scale. He reported that it had started in his lower back and radiated to his left leg. He said he had had no trauma or weakness to the regi...

E-107 Carotid artery stenting in patients with symptomatic non-stenotic carotid artery disease - a case series
ConclusionsIn this case series performed over a 10-year period at a high-volume stroke center we show that CAS is safe and efficient in patients with SyNC. Previous studies have established safety and effectiveness of CES in patients presenting with SyNC, however there is a paucity of reports in the literature regarding the effect of CAS in this patient population. Recent guidelines have brought specific attention to high-risk plaque characteristics which suggest that plaque instability plays a major role in the onset of ischemic events, regardless of lumen narrowing. Advanced imaging techniques, such as Optical Coherence ...

Conformal Medical launches LAA seal study
Conformal Medical said yesterday that it launched an investigational device exemption trial for a device designed to seal off the heart’s left atrial appendage to help prevent stroke in atrial fibrillation patients. Nashua, N.H.-based Conformal’s device is designed to adapt to the each patient’s individual physiology, to be easier to implant with less imaging and without general anesthesia. The 45-patient, single-arm study is designed to evaluate the device’s performance, with an estimated primary completion date of April 2020 and a final completion date of June 2025, according to ClinicalTrials.gov. Th...

Predictors of Cervical Bleeding after Carotid Endarterectomy
Conclusions: Postoperative severe bleeding after carotid surgery in our institution is not an uncommon complication. Its incidence is within the range reported in the literature, but it is not associated with major complications or mortality. Antiplatelet treatment with clopidogrel is the main risk factor associated with reintervention. Other factors, such as coagulation control, postoperative hypertension management, and the use of an autologous patch, could help reduce its incidence.

P-007 Safety and efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy for distal vessel occlusion (DLV): single center experience
ConclusionThis single center, consecutive real-world experience demonstrates that thrombectomy in DVO stroke patients is safe and leads to high rate of successful recanalization. Further studies are warranted to evaluate the efficacy of thrombectomy in DVO in comparison to best medical management.Disclosures S. Majidi: None. S. Matsoukas: None. R. De Leacy: None. T.
