Dog models of human atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases
Mamm Genome. 2022 Oct 15. doi: 10.1007/s00335-022-09965-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Eighty-five percent of CVD-associated deaths are due to heart attacks and stroke. Atherosclerosis leads to heart attack and stroke through a slow progression of lesion formation and luminal narrowing of arteries. Dogs are similar to humans in terms of their cardiovascular physiology, size, and anatomy. Dog models have been developed to recapitulate the complex phenotype of human patients and understand the underlying mechanism of CVD. Different methods, inc...

Pharmacological targeting of coagulation factor XI mitigates the development of experimental atherosclerosis in low-density lipoprotein receptor-deficient mice.
CONCLUSION: Pharmacological targeting of FXI reduced atherogenesis in Ldlr-/- mice. Interference with the contact activation system may safely reduce development or progression of atherosclerosis. PMID: 33421301 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Challenge to the Intestinal Mucosa During Sepsis
Conclusion The impact of sepsis on the gut is manifold, e.g., sepsis mediated alteration of the gut-blood barrier and increase in the intestinal permeability, which may correlate with the phenomena of bacterial translocation and lymphatic activation (“toxic-lymph”). Systemic consequences of sepsis are widespread and concern to the coagulative system, the microbiome as well as enzymes, such as pancreatic proteases, MMPs and IAPs. Nevertheless, the therapeutic approaches for modulating the mucosal immune system are still rarely effective in daily routine. Recent published studies showing that treatment with ...

A High-Fat and High-Cholesterol Diet Induces Cardiac Fibrosis, Vascular Endothelial, and Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction in SHRSP5/Dmcr Rats.
CONCLUSIONS: SHRSP5/Dmcr rats may be a suitable animal model for elucidating the organ interaction between NASH and cardiac or vascular dysfunction. PMID: 29162773 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

MicroRNA-134 Promotes the Development of Atherosclerosis Via the ANGPTL4/LPL Pathway in Apolipoprotein E Knockout Mice.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that miR-134 accelerates atherogenesis by promoting lipid accumulation and proinflammatory cytokine secretion via the ANGPTL4/LPL pathway. Therefore, targeting miR-134 may offer a promising strategy for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. PMID: 28867683 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
