Liver Transplant in Hemoglobin SC Disease and Autoimmune Hepatitis: A Case Report
We report a case of a 50-year-old man with sickle cell disease genotype SC (HbSC) and cirrhosis secondary to autoimmune hepatitis who underwent liver transplant. His postoperative course included upper extremity deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolus, stroke via a patent foramen ovale after a line removal, and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. Patent Foramen Ovale Repair at the Time of Double Lung Transplantation: Necessary or Not?
ConclusionsThe protective effect of PFO repair remains unclear. However, is not associated with an increased incidence of stroke or postoperative mortality following LTx. Thrombosis at the Site of Pulmonary Venous Anastomosis Following Lung Transplantation Presenting with Multiple, Bilateral, Supra- and Infra-Tentorial Ischemic Strokes in the Setting of a Known Patent Foramen Ovale (P4.355)
CONCLUSIONS: PFO-related stroke risk over time remains a controversial matter and so does its prevention by closure, as there is no current evidence-based data to justify this procedure except on anecdotal basis. Persistent hypoxemia and platypnea-orthodeoxia after left single-lung transplantation: a case report
Conclusions Our case demonstrates that an open patent foramen ovale leading to massive right-to-left shunting is a possible complication after lung transplant, with significant morbidity, and that it can be treated successfully using a percutaneously placed occlusion device. Through this case report, we aim to improve pre-transplant procedures by demonstrating that a bubble contrast transesophageal echocardiogram can be performed pre-operatively to detect a patent foramen ovale.

Percutaneous PFO closure for paradoxical stroke in 8‐kg twins
We present two cases of PFO closures in identical 8 kg twin boys with Hurler’s syndrome who had central lines for planned bone marrow transplants, with embolic stroke in one. We discuss the treatment options as well as the special challenges based on the patients’ age, size, and diagnoses.
