Conclusions: The rate of inpatient mortality with SCT in sickle cell disease is lower than the overall inpatient mortality rate for allogeneic SCT (7%; Godara et al bbmt 2018), indicating a favorable outcome for these patients. Infections do occur commonly during the course of hospitalization, especially in association with GVHD. We report a case of Aspergillus infection involving the pituitary gland and sellar region discovered in a 74-year-old man. The patient had a history of hypertension, chronic renal disease, autoimmune hemolytic anemia and presented with right eye pain, headaches and worsening hemiparesis. Imaging studies revealed a right internal carotid artery occlusion and an acute right pontine stroke along with smaller infarcts in the right middle cerebral artery distribution. Brachial Plexus Neuritis as Presenting Manifestation of Disseminated Coccidioidomycosis. (P6.323)
CONCLUSIONS:This is the first reported case of coccidioidomycosis presenting with PNS involvement. Both remote inflammatory changes and direct local fungal invasion noted in this case highlight the wide spectrum of clinico-pathological presentations seen in coccidioidomycosis infection.
