Association between blood pressure categories and cardiovascular disease mortality in China
ConclusionsPrehypertension-high should be considered in CVD primary prevention given its high prevalence and increased CVD risk. All hypertension subtypes were independently associated with CVD and its subtypes mortality, though the strength of associations varied substantially.

Initiation of migraine-related cortical spreading depolarization by hyperactivity of GABAergic neurons and NaV1.1 channels
Spreading depolarizations (SDs) are involved in migraine, epilepsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. However, the cellular origin and specific differential mechanisms are not clear. Increased glutamatergic activity is thought to be the key factor for generating cortical spreading depression (CSD), a pathological mechanism of migraine. Here, we show that acute pharmacological activation of NaV1.1 (the main Na+ channel of interneurons) or optogenetic-induced hyperactivity of GABAergic interneurons is sufficient to ignite CSD in the neocortex by spiking-generated extracellular K+ build-up. Neither ...

Association between plaque vulnerability and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) levels: The Plaque At RISK study
In conclusion, plaque vulnerability is positively associated with plasma levels of NETs, but only in patients naive to statins or antithrombotic medication prior to the index event.

Blunted cardiovascular effects of beta-blockers in patients with cirrhosis: Relation to severity?
ConclusionWe found the effect of beta-blockade on cardiac index in patients with advanced cirrhosis to be less potent than in patients with early cirrhosis, indicating that underlying cirrhotic cardiomyopathy increases, and the cardiac compensatory reserve becomes more compromised, with disease progression. The differential effects of beta-blockade in the left atrium may be used to predict the effect of beta-blockers on portal pressure, but further studies are needed to investigate this possibility.

Safe and effective thrombolysis in free flap salvage: Intra-arterial urokinase infusion
by Jun Hyeok Kim, Sungyeon Yoon, Heeyeon Kwon, Deuk Young Oh, Young-Joon Jun, Suk-Ho Moon Despite the high success rate in reconstruction using free tissue transfer, flap failure is often caused by microvascular thrombosis. In a small percentage of cases with complete flap loss, a salvage procedure is performed. In the present study, the effectiveness of intra-arterial urokinase infusi on through the free flap tissue was investigated to develop a protocol to prevent thrombotic failure. The retrospective study evaluated the medical records of patients who underwent salvage procedure with intra-arterial urokinase infusion a...

Galectin-3 promotes brain injury by modulating the phenotype of microglia via binding TLR-4 after intracerebral hemorrhage
CONCLUSIONS: This study proves that Gal-3 is involved in neuroinflammation and nerve damage after ICH. Gal-3 expression should not be encouraged early on to prevent neuroinflammation. which provides a new possibility for clinical treatment for ICH patients.PMID:37698533 | DOI:10.18632/aging.205014
