E-182 A multicentric experience for the use of flow diverter in the treatment of anterior communicating artery aneurysms
ConclusionFlow diverters appear to be a safe and effective treatment for anterior communicating artery aneurysms, presenting as an alternative strategy in the armamentarium of interventionalist. Mid-term results were favorable, and complication rates were low. Additional studies with longer follow-up time and independent adjudication are warranted to confirm the safety and effectiveness of the technique.Disclosures V. Benalia: None. G. Cortez: None. N. North American multicenter experience with the Flow Redirection Endoluminal Device in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms
CONCLUSIONS: As the first large-scale North American multicenter FRED experience, this study confirmed the ease of successful FRED deployment but suggested lower efficacy and a higher rate of complications than reported by previous European and South American studies on FRED and other flow-diverting devices. The authors recommend judicious use of this device until future studies can better elucidate the long-term outcomes of FRED treatment.PMID:36087324 | DOI:10.3171/2022.7.JNS221371

Endoluminal flow diverting stents for middle cerebral artery bifurcation aneurysms: multicenter cohort
Conclusion FDS treatment for MCA bifurcation aneurysms is feasible, with comparable safety and efficacy profiles to other available endovascular options when utilized in carefully selected aneurysms. Jailing of M2 branches was not associated with a higher risk of post-procedural ischemic complications.

Annexin A1 upregulates hematoma resolution via the FPR2/p-ERK(1/2)/DUSP1/CD36 signaling pathway after germinal matrix hemorrhage
Exp Neurol. 2022 Oct 21:114257. doi: 10.1016/j.expneurol.2022.114257. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGerminal matrix hemorrhage (GMH) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in preterm infants in the United States, with little progress made in its clinical management. Blood clots disrupting normal cerebrospinal fluid circulation and absorption after germinal matrix hemorrhage are key contributors towards post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus development. n-formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2), a G-protein-coupled receptor, has been associated with the activation of p-ERK1/2, which in turn promotes the transcription of ...

Background rates of adverse events of special interest for COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring in the United States, 2019-2020
CONCLUSION: AESI background rates varied by database and demographics and fluctuated in March-December 2020, but most returned to pre-pandemic levels after May 2020. It is critical to standardize demographics and consider seasonal and other trends when comparing historical rates with post-vaccination AESI rates in the same database to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine safety.PMID:36404170 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.11.003

What Sub-Saharan African Nations Can Teach the U.S. About Black Maternal Health
While poor maternal outcomes among Black women in the U.S. is not new, improving it is imperative. U.S. policymakers can look to sub-Saharan Africa for guidance on reversing this trend. Credit: Ernest Ankomah/IPSBy Ifeanyi NsoforABUJA, Jun 2 2023 (IPS) New research shows that Black mothers in the United States disproportionately live in counties with higher maternal vulnerability and face greater risk of preterm death for the fetus, greater risk of low birth weight for a baby, and a higher number of maternal deaths. While poor maternal outcomes among Black women in the U.S. is not new, improving it is imperative. U.S. poli...

Pregnancy-Associated Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Hospitalizations in the United States
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Jul 7. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00262.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTakotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) is most common in postmenopausal women aged ≥ 50 years but also affects pregnant individuals. However, there are no national estimates on the prevalence, timing of occurrence, correlates, and outcomes of Pregnancy-associated TCM. Using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS: 2016-2020), we describe rates of pregnancy-associated TCM hospitalizations among 13 - 49 years old pregnant individuals in the United States by selected demographic, behavioral, hospital, and clinical characteristi...
