Evaluation of Large-Scale Proteomics for Prediction of Cardiovascular Events
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: A protein risk score was significantly associated with ASCVD events in primary and secondary event populations. When added to clinical risk factors, the protein risk score and polygenic risk score both provided statistically significant but modest improvement in discrimination.PMID:37606673 | DOI:10.1001/jama.2023.13258

Development and validation of a dementia risk score in the UK Biobank and Whitehall II cohorts
Background Current dementia risk scores have had limited success in consistently identifying at-risk individuals across different ages and geographical locations. Objective We aimed to develop and validate a novel dementia risk score for a midlife UK population, using two cohorts: the UK Biobank, and UK Whitehall II study. Methods We divided the UK Biobank cohort into a training (n=176 611, 80%) and test sample (n=44 151, 20%) and used the Whitehall II cohort (n=2934) for external validation. We used the Cox LASSO regression to select the strongest predictors of incident dementia from 28 candidate predictors and then dev...

Predictive Model for PICC Occlusion Risk for Patients in Intensive Care Units: A Retrospective Clinical Study
CONCLUSIONS: Age ≥65 years, BMI ≥24 kg/m2, diabetes, malignant tumors, blood transfusions, and intravenous nutrition were independent risk factors for PICC occlusion, while the frequency of flushing and sealing pipe (Q8h) was a protective factor. This prediction model had an outstanding ability to discriminate in identifying patients with a high-risk of PICC occlusion in the ICU.PMID:37573601

Estimating the Cost of Delivering Tobacco Cessation Intervention Package at Non-Communicable Disease Clinics in Two Districts of North India
CONCLUSION: The development costs of the intervention package accounted for the majority proportion of the total cost. Of the total unit cost of implementation, the telephonic follow-up, human resources, and capital resources were the major contributory components.IMPLICATIONS: The current study aims to fill gaps by estimating the unit-level health systems cost of a culturally sensitive, disease-specific, and patient-centric tobacco cessation intervention package delivered at the outpatient settings of NCD clinics at the secondary level hospital, which represents a major link in the health care system of India. Findings fr...
