South Africa: North West Health On World Salt Awareness Week
[Govt of SA] The North West Department of Health urge communities to take actions during the World Salt Awareness Week which is marked on 14 - 20 March. The awareness is to educate members of the public that salt can damage their health and it is linked to serious health conditions such as stroke and heart failure. There is also increasing evidence supporting links between our current high salt diets and the onset of stomach cancer, osteoporosis, obesity and kidney stones and kidney disease.

When COVID-19 hit the Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center in Cuthbert, a small rural town in Randolph County, in late March, the facility—which includes a 25-bed hospital, an adjacent nursing home and a family-medicine clinic, was quickly overwhelmed. In just a matter of days, 45 of the 62 nursing home residents tested positive. CDC Director Resigns Amid Reports of Tobacco Stock Trade
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on January 31, 2018, that Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald would resign as the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The statement read, “Dr. Fitzgerald owns certain complex financial interests that have imposed a broad recusal limiting her ability to complete all of her duties as the CDC Director. Due to the nature of these financial interests, Dr. Fitzgerald could not divest from them in a definitive time period.”

One in 10 men aged 50 'have the heart of a 60-year-old'
"One-tenth of 50-year-old men have a heart age 10 years older than they are," BBC News reports. This is the finding of an analysis of 1.2 million people who used the NHS Heart Age Test.
The principle behind the test is that you can "age" your heart through unhealthy behaviour such as smoking and being obese.
Underlying conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which often have no noticeable symptoms, can also age the heart.

Delta Region Health Care Providers Get $1.75M in Grants
ARcare and the Greater Delta Alliance for Health Inc. are getting $1.7 million in grant funding in fiscal 2016 to reduce chronic diseases that disproportionately affect Arkansas residents, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
The money will support collaborative efforts among health care providers to address diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, stroke and behavioral health.
Arkansas is among eight states in the Delta are getting a total of $10 million in grant funding in fiscal 2016 from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy at the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Oregon gets more Obamacare grants, this time for preventing diabetes and heart disease
Oregon is receiving $2.6 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to support programs targeting chronic diseases.
