Circulating Endothelial Progenitor and Mesenchymal Stromal Cells as Biomarkers for Monitoring Disease Status and Responses to Exercise
Rev Cardiovasc Med. 2022 Dec 2;23(12):396. doi: 10.31083/j.rcm2312396.ABSTRACTNoncommunicable chronic diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and type 2 diabetes (T2D), pose significant health challenges globally. Important advances have been made in the understanding of the pathophysiologal mechanisms and treatment of noncommunicable diseases in recent years. Lack of physical activity is a primary contributor to many noncommunicable diseases including metabolic syndrome, T2D, CVD, and obesity. Certain diabetes medications and non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as physical activity and exercise, are sh...

Global and national burden of atherosclerosis from 1990 to 2019: trend analysis based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019
CONCLUSIONS: From 1990 to 2019, there was an overall increasing trend in the global incidence of all three clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. Between 1990 and 2019, both the mortality rate and DALYs for IHD and ischemic stroke declined across all age groups. Overall, the burden of atherosclerosis-related diseases has not significantly decreased and even shows signs of trending upward. These findings strongly suggest that despite some progress made, efforts to control atherosclerosis diseases globally need to be intensified.PMID:37677929 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002839

Prevalence of hs-CRP among Indians with hypertension
Bioinformation. 2022 Oct 31;18(10):1041-1043. doi: 10.6026/973206300181041. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe prevalence of hypertension in the early twentieth century varied in India, ranging from 2-15% in Urban India and 2-8% in Rural India. In the inter heart and inter stroke study, hypertension accounted for 17.9% and 34.6% of population attributable risk for coronary artery disease and stroke respectively. CRP appears in serum in response to a variety of inflammatory stimuli .Raised level of hs-CRP is seen with increasing with age, during an infection, inflammation, coronary artery diseases, obesity, sepsis, smoking and va...

Subannular repair in secondary mitral regurgitation with restricted leaflet motion during systole
Conclusions Our study demonstrates the safety and feasibility of standardised subannular repair to treat ventricular SMR (Carpentier type IIIb) in a multicentre setting. By addressing mitral leaflet tethering, papillary muscle relocation results in very satisfactory 1-year outcomes and has the potential to durably restore MV geometry; nevertheless, long-term FU is mandatory. Trial registration number NCT03470155.

Evaluation of Large-Scale Proteomics for Prediction of Cardiovascular Events
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: A protein risk score was significantly associated with ASCVD events in primary and secondary event populations. When added to clinical risk factors, the protein risk score and polygenic risk score both provided statistically significant but modest improvement in discrimination.PMID:37606673 | DOI:10.1001/jama.2023.13258

The Pandemic of Coronary Artery Disease in the Sub-Saharan Africa: What Clinicians Need to Know
AbstractPurpose of ReviewCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally with an accelerated increase in CVD ‑related death in Africa and other low‑middle‑income countries. This review is aimed at highlighting the burden of coronary artery disease CAD, its peculiarities as well as challenges of management in sub-Saharan Africa.Recent FindingsRecent data revealed a shift from high incidence of CVDs associated with poverty and malnutrition (such as rheumatic heart disease) initially, which are now falling, to rising incidence of other non-communicable CVDs (such as hypertension, c...
