Just after dawn on a recent July day in Rochelle, Ga., Silvia Moreno Ayala steps into a pair of sturdy work pants, slips on a long-sleeved shirt, and slathers her face and hands with sunscreen. She drapes a flowered scarf over her wide-brimmed hat to protect her neck and back from the punishing rays of the sun. There isn’t much she can do about the humidity, however. Morning is supposed to be the coolest part of the day, but sweat is already pooling in her rubber boots.

Risk of stroke following antivenom use after venomous snakebite: correspondence
We read with great interest the epidemiological study by Hunget al.1 on the risk of stroke with antivenom use after venomous snakebite in Taiwan. According to the national medical claims data, the authors provide us with useful information and disclose that venomous snakebite is associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke after the use of antivenom after using the matching propensity score in relevant measurable covariates. This study explored the long-term effects of acupuncture treatment on stroke risk in migraineurs using national real-world data. We collected new migraine patients from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2017. Using 1:1 propensity-score matching, we assigned patients to either an acupuncture or non-acupuncture cohort and followed up until the end of 2018. Risk of peripheral artery disease and stroke in migraineurs with or without aura: a nationwide population-based cohort study
Conclusion: Migraineurs without established cardiovascular disease had a significantly increased risk of PAD and stroke, and the risk of stroke persists in migraineurs with or without aura, with an increased trend of PAD in migraineurs with aura. Our study result should remind clinical physicians of the risk of PAD in the future among migraineurs even without established cardiovascular disease currently, and screening for PAD and stroke may be needed in caring patients with migraine.PMID:35919822 | PMC:PMC9339415 | DOI:10.7150/ijms.72119
