Distal Aortic Progression After Hemi- Zones 1-3 Arch Replacement in Acute Type A Aortic Dissection
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in long-term survival, distal aorta growth, or reoperation rate for distal aortic aneurysm after Hemiarch or Zones 1-3 arch replacement. Patient-specific arch replacement strategies may be utilized rather than defaulting to aggressive arch replacement for all ATAAD patients.PMID:36368349 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.10.035

Athero-occlusive Disease Appears to be Associated with Slower Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Growth: An Exploratory Analysis of the TEDY Trial
CONCLUSION: In an exploratory analysis of a selective cohort from the TEDY trial, AOD was associated with slower AAA growth. Validation of these findings in other cohorts is needed.PMID:35277322 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2021.12.038

Endovascular Repair of Ascending Aortic Disease in High-Risk Patients Yields Favorable Outcome
ConclusionsAscending aortic stent placement for ascending aortic disease is feasible and is associated with favorable aortic remodeling. Despite persistent perfusion to the false lumen in a subset of patients, there is minimal aortic dilation at short-term follow-up with excellent survival.

What Is the Specificity of the Aortic Dissection Detection Risk Score in a Low ‐prevalence Population?
ConclusionsOur study confirms that in North America the prevalence of AAS in those undergoing advanced imaging is low. The ADD ‐RS in this population has a low specificity. A lack of defined inclusion criteria and a low specificity limits the application of this rule in practice.

Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair of Aortic Arch Pathologies with the Conformable Thoracic Aortic Graft: Early and 2 year Results from a European Multicentre Registry.
CONCLUSION: The CTAG stent graft shows high deployment accuracy, good conformability, and clinical effectiveness in the treatment of aortic arch pathologies. However, thoracic endovascular aortic repair in the arch is associated with a relatively high stroke rate. Further studies with more patients and longer follow up are needed to evaluate the long-term results. PMID: 27107487 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Proximal Scallop in Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Aneurysm Repair to Overcome Neck Issues in the Arch.
CONCLUSIONS: Proximal scalloped stent grafts appear to be an effective additional tool for TEVAR of TAA when dealing with short or angulated proximal necks. PMID: 26489732 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcomes of Open Repair of Mycotic Descending Thoracic and Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Conclusions Open repair of mycotic descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms remains the gold standard of therapy. Aggressive intraoperative debridement with in situ prosthetic reconstruction permits a high rate of success in this very high risk cohort of patients. Lifelong antibiotic suppression therapy may prevent late prosthetic graft infection.

Endovascular Repair with Chimney Technique for Juxtarenal Aortic Aneurysm: A Single Center Experience.
CONCLUSION: Ch-EVAR can be used to treat JRAAs with suitable anatomical conditions. However, complications of type I endoleak were not uncommon, and, therefore, further studies are required to prove its efficiency for JRAAs. PMID: 25631457 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Procedure to fix radio DJ’s aorta posed high risk to his voice, but UCLA docs came through
Just a few months ago, Sandy “The Sandman” Fagin, a disc jockey with Laguna Beach’s KX-93.5 FM and a voiceover actor, was living with a ticking time bomb — a tennis ball–sized aneurysm near his heart that was threatening to burst. Because of the aneurysm’s location, a rare two-part surgery was recommended at UCLA. But the first procedure carried a surprising risk: It could damage his voice, as it involved rerouting the blood flow from his neck’s carotid arteries, which are in close proximity to the delicate vocal cord nerves. The 40-year radio veteran developed the aneurysm as a consequence of a condition kno...
