Cerebral Small Vessel Disease burden: An independent biomarker for anomia treatment responsiveness in chronic stroke patients with aphasia
CONCLUSIONS: cSVD, a marker of brain reserve and a robust risk factor for post-stroke dementia, may be used as a biomarker for distinguishing patients that are more likely to respond to anomia therapy from those that are less likely to do so and for individualizing treatment parameters (e.g., targeting both linguistic and nonlinguistic cognition in severe cSVD).PMID:37290492 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2023.05.008

Assessing Depression and its Correlates Among Post-stroke Survivors with Aphasia in Sri Lanka
This study attempted to identify the individuals with depression among people with aphasia, to understand the influence of socio-demographic factors on depression, and to understand the relationship PSD has with language impairment and physical disability. We conducted a cross-sectional study with 78 participants recruited from three hospital-based speech and language therapy clinics in Sri Lanka. Sinhala Language Aphasia Assessment, Peradeniya Depression Scale, and Barthel Index were used to measure language skills, depression symptoms, and physical disability. From the sample, 25.6% (n  = 20) were having depression. ...

Clin Exp Vaccine Res. 2023 Apr;12(2):172-175. doi: 10.7774/cevr.2023.12.2.172. Epub 2023 Apr 30.ABSTRACTCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a part of our lives now and we have no more effective way of coping than a vaccine. COVID-19 is a disease that causes severe thrombosis outside the respiratory tract. Vaccines also protect us in this respect, but in some rare cases, thrombosis has been found to develop after vaccination (much less frequently than COVID-19). What was interesting in our case was that it showed how a disaster could happen under three factors that predispose to thrombosis. A 65-year-old female p...
