Chronic comorbid conditions and asthma exacerbation occurrence in a general population sample
In conclusion, several chronic comorbid conditions were associated with asthma exacerbation occurrence, which confirms but also complements previous studies. Our observations contribute to understanding exacerbation risk estimation and, ultimately, personalized asthma management.PMID:37567896 | DOI:10.1038/s41533-023-00350-x

Preserved Ratio Impaired Spirometry and Risks of Macrovascular, Microvascular Complications and Mortality Among Individuals With Type 2 Diabetes
Chest. 2023 Jun 17:S0012-3692(23)00794-8. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.05.031. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The prospective associations of preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) with new-onset macrovascular and microvascular complications and mortality among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and whether PRISm enhances the prediction ability of an established office-based risk score remains to be elucidated.RESEARCH QUESTION: Can PRISm be used as a predictor of poor prognosis in individuals with T2D?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: We included 20,047 study participants with T2D and complete data on spirometry ...

Evaluating the efficacy and safety of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus the optimal drug therapy (ODT) for stable coronary heart disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
DISCUSSION: Compared with ODT, PCI reduced the mortality and myocardial infarction rate of patients with CTO or severe coronary artery stenosis. However, the incidence of stroke, revascularization, and quality of life of patients were not significant different between PCI and ODT. Performance bias and detection bias should be cautioned.PMID:35572911 | PMC:PMC9096285 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-22-222
