Factors Associated with Anticoagulation Initiation for New Atrial Fibrillation in an Urban Emergency Department
CONCLUSION: More than half of ED patients with new AF eligible for AC were initiated on it. Work to improve AC utilization among patients with new AF who left AMA from ED and those who prefer to communicate in a non-English language may be warranted.PMID:36388863 | PMC:PMC9590604 | DOI:10.18865/ed.32.4.325

Oral anticoagulants: a systematic overview of reviews on efficacy and safety, genotyping, self-monitoring, and stakeholder experiences
ConclusionsFor stroke prevention in AF, direct OACs seem to be more effective and safer than usual care, and apixaban (5  mg twice daily) had the best profile. For VTE, there was no strong evidence that direct OACs were better than usual care. Education and pharmacist management could improve coagulation control. Both clinicians and patients rated efficacy and safety as the most important factors in managing AF and V TE.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42017084263 —one deviation; efficacy and safety were from one review.

EE411 Healthcare Costs of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Among Medicare Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation and Multimorbidity
To evaluate cost differences between stroke/systemic embolism (S/SE) and major bleeding (MB) among nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) patients with multimorbidity prescribed direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) or warfarin.

The management of anticoagulants in patients with atrial fibrillation and history of falls or risk of falls: protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
DiscussionThis review will be the first to summarize direct and indirect evidence on the safety and efficacy of anticoagulant treatments in atrial fibrillation patients at risk of falls or with a history of falls. The findings will be important to patients, clinicians, and health policy-makers to inform best practices in the use of these treatments.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO registry number:CRD42020201086

Low ‑dose Aspirin for Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Events in Postmenopausal Women with Type‑2 Diabetes: The Prescriptive Approach in the Real World
Conclusions: Low ‑dose aspirin in our population is prescribed preferentially in postmenopausal women with type‑2 diabetes when affected by metabolic syndrome or metabolic cardiomyopathy, at the opposite women with only high risk have lower chance to receive aspirin.

Comparing Patient Preferences for Antithrombotic Treatment During the Acute and Chronic Phases of Myocardial Infarction: A Discrete-Choice Experiment
ConclusionPatient preferences for antithrombotic treatments were unaffected by disease stage but varied by bleeding risk and other factors. This heterogeneity in preferences is an important consideration because it can affect the benefit –risk balance and the acceptability of antithrombotic treatments to patients.
