Endocarditis Is a Common Stroke Mechanism in Hemodialysis Patients Brief Reports
Conclusions— Cardioembolism and cryptogenic stroke are the predominant stroke mechanisms among hemodialysis patients. Infective endocarditis was identified frequently relative to other stroke cohorts, and a raised index of suspicion is warranted in the hemodialysis population.

Thrombolysis for Ischemic Stroke Associated With Infective Endocarditis: Results From the Nationwide Inpatient Sample Brief Reports
Conclusions— High rates of post-thrombolytic intracerebral hemorrhage and low rates of favorable outcome mandate caution in using IVT in acute ischemic stroke patients with IE.

Temporal relationship between infective endocarditis and stroke
Conclusions: The association between IE and stroke persists for longer than previously reported. Most diagnoses of stroke and IE are made close together in time, but a period of heightened stroke risk becomes apparent several months before the diagnosis of IE and lasts for several months afterward.

Characterizing Ischemic Stroke and Hemorrhagic Conversion in Infectious Endocarditis (P6.297)
Conclusions:The incidence of acute ischemic stroke in our population was 70.6%, with a third being silent infarcts. Hemorrhagic conversion occurred in 30% and was associated with cerebral microhemorrhages.Disclosure: Dr. Marquardt has nothing to disclose. Dr. Cho has nothing to disclose. In-Hospital Mechanisms of Stroke in Patients on Hemodialysis: A 10-Year Retrospective Study (P6.044)
Conclusions: Cardioembolism is the commonest mechanism of in-hospital strokes in patients with ESRD on HD. Atrial fibrillation and infective endocarditis are likely sources of embolism. Further large scale studies should be directed towards stroke prevention in this population.Disclosure: Dr. Sachar has nothing to disclose. Dr. Sunbulli has nothing to disclose. Arterial ischemic stroke in children with cardiac disease
Conclusions: Infants with cyanotic CHD were most frequently affected by AIS during the periprocedural period. Prospective cohort studies are required to determine effective primary and secondary prevention strategies.

Acute Stroke Therapy in Infective Endocarditis - Case Series and Systematic Review (P6.295)
Conclusions:Endovascular thrombectomy alone appears to be safer than IV-tPA alone in the management of AIS in patients with IE.Disclosure: Dr. Marquardt has nothing to disclose. Recurrent Acute Ischemic Stroke after Infective Endocarditis Caused by Streptococcus Constellatus: First Case Report and Analysis of the Case Series
Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is highly prevalent in patients with infective endocarditis (IE) and associated with high rates of death and disability. IE presenting as an acute ischemic stroke, especially recurrent concurrence of acute anterior and posterior circulation infarct, has rarely been reported. Herein, we report a case study of a 60-year-old man with a history of aortic valve replacement and was under warfarin, presented with recurrent acute ischemic stroke which was found to have no vegetation secondary to infective endocarditis caused by Streptococcus constellatus as the embolic source.

Acute Ischemic Stroke Treatment in Infective Endocarditis: Systematic Review
Background: Ischemic stroke is a frequent neurologic complication of infective endocarditis. This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of thrombectomy in comparison to thrombolysis and to combined treatment in patients with infective endocarditis associated acute ischemic stroke. Methods: A systematic literature review was performed following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The review included case reports, cases series, cross-sectional studies, case control studies, randomized controlled trials or nonrandomized controlled trials, which reported the treat...

Infectious Causes of Stroke
Stroke is one of the primary causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. It can be ischemic or hemorrhagic, and the former can be due to an in-situ thrombus or a distant embolus. Despite being a rare cause, stroke can also be caused in the setting of infection. Bacterial agents are the most common cause of stroke, among other infectious agents. Until the antibiotic era, rheumatic heart disease was a predisposing risk factor of infective endocarditis. VZV is the most common cause of strokes in pediatric and adult populations.

A Puzzling Case of Cryptogenic Stroke
Background: Stroke is a common neurological complication of infective endocarditis (IE) and it is associated with increased morbidity and mortality but infective endocarditis in acute stroke setting is hard to discover. Material and methods: A 75-year-old man referred to hospital for the onset of left hemiparesis and dysarthria. His past medical history included hypertension. He had 3 months history of fatigue, fever, and weight loss. Neurological examination revealed left hemiparesis and dysarthria.

Diagnostic Performances of the Susceptibility Vessel Sign on MRI for the Prediction of Macroscopic Thrombi Features in Acute Ischemic Stroke
In 20% –40% of cases the etiology of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) remains uncertain despite complete diagnostic investigation.1 Correlations between the histological microscopic features of the thrombus and the TOAST (Trial of Org 10 172 in Acute Stroke Treatment) categories have been found.2–5 However, from the macroscopic point of view, only one case report has considered the chromatic visual aspect of the retrieved thrombus.6 Recently, the “white” visual aspect of the thrombus at the moment of withdrawal has been related to atypical etiologies, in particular infective endocarditis.

Intravenous Thrombolysis in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients with Unsuspected Infective Endocarditis
Infective endocarditis (IE) is considered to be an absolute contraindication for intravenous tissue plasminogen activator treatment (IVtPA) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, during the hyperacute stroke evaluation, the exclusion of IE may be difficult. We sought to report the prevalence of undiagnosed IE in AIS patients who received IVtPA.

Acute Ischemic Stroke Therapy in Infective Endocarditis: Case Series and Systematic Review
Objectives: To evaluate the safety of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) therapy in patients with infective endocarditis (IE) with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) or endovascular therapy (EVT) such as mechanical thrombectomy. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of patients who underwent AIS therapy with IVT or EVT at a tertiary referral center from 2013 to 2017, that were later diagnosed with acute IE as the causative mechanism. We then performed a systematic review of reports of acute ischemic reperfusion therapy in IE since 1995 for their success rates in terms of neurological outcome, and mortality, and their risk of he...
