Carotid interposition in patients with head and neck tumors: clinical experience of 13 cases reconstructed with a great saphenous vein autograft
CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: CIG in HNC setting can achieve oncologic-control with an acceptable rate of complications. Routine shunting, heparinization, and elevating blood-pressure during closure seem to be safe protocols to maintain cerebral-circulation perioperatively. Critical analysis of the evaluation of postoperative dysphagia following an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion
CONCLUSION: Postoperative dysphagia risk increases in ACDF compared to ALDF, likely due to underlying anatomy. Postoperative dysphagia symptoms are not effectively documented by spine surgeons and as a result underevaluated by dysphagia specialists. Patient suitability for free water protocols in acute stroke and general medicine: a qualitative study of clinician perceptions
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: Despite the benefits of FWPs in other settings, in acute stroke and general medicine, clinicians erred on the side of safety and, in most cases, would not implement an FWP. Future clinical research is needed to systematically design high-quality and feasible clinical trials to determine the benefits and safety of FWPs for patients with dysphagia in these settings.
