Status of Hypertension Control in Urban Slums of Central India: A community Health Worker-Based Two-Year Follow-Up
CONCLUSION: We found about six of every ten individuals with HTN were on treatment, and about four were optimally controlled. These findings provide a benchmark for NPCDCS, in terms of achievable goals within short periods of follow-up.PMID:37694241 | PMC:PMC10492608 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_266_22

Investigation of Factors That Affect the Quality of Life After a Stroke
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1425:437-442. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-31986-0_42.ABSTRACTStroke, as a disease, describes a group of disorders characterized by the presence of central nervous system symptoms either as a result of ischemia (ischemic stroke) or bleeding (hemorrhagic stroke). The appearance of a stroke results in a permanent physical or cognitive disability. The stroke incidence is the third cause of death after heart disease and cancer, and is the main cause of long-term disability. The effects of a stroke on a patient's daily life, and hence on his quality of life, are intense and long-lasting. These include memory pro...

Morbidity and mortality of patients with diabetic neuropathy treated with pathogenetically oriented alpha-lipoic acid versus symptomatic pharmacotherapies - a nationwide database analysis from Hungary
CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective database analysis revealed a lower occurrence of cardio- and cerebrovascular morbidity, cancer events and all-cause mortality in patients with diabetic neuropathy treated with pathogenetically oriented ALA vs symptomatic pharmacotherapies. This hypothesis-generating result requires further investigations.PMID:37257759 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabres.2023.110734

Neuroprotective effects of betanin in mice with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury
Exp Anim. 2023 Feb 8. doi: 10.1538/expanim.22-0176. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerebral ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury as found in stroke is a complex and heterogeneous disorder and closely related to disability and death. Today, nutraceuticals and protective therapy to increase neuronal integrity and prevent pathological complication are common. We investigated the neuroprotective effect of betanin against cerebral IR injury in mice. Forty male institute of cancer research (ICR) mice were divided into Sham-veh, IR-veh, IR-Bet50 and IR-Bet100 groups. After 2 weeks of oral administration of normal saline (vehicle; veh)...
