How can we improve the acceptability of vaccination against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in France? An original qualitative study with focus groups comprising parents and school staff, interviewed separately
CONCLUSION: The results of these focus groups provided information on which elements may harm or help HPV vaccination. Identified perceptions, beliefs, knowledge, barriers, and facilitators will help us to build an intervention program focus on general practitioners (GP), school staff, parents, and adolescents.PMID:37344259 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.072

Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effect of Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination on Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia Lesions
Indian J Surg Oncol. 2023 Jun;14(2):504-509. doi: 10.1007/s13193-022-01657-w. Epub 2022 Oct 1.ABSTRACTCervical cancer is the most common health problem among global young women. Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is a pre-invasive stage of cervical cancer, the major cause of which is human papillomavirus (HPV), and vaccination has a promising effect on reducing the progression of CIN lesions. The current study was a retrospective case control investigation in two centers, Shiraz and Sari Universities of Medical Sciences from 2018 to 2020 to evaluate the effect of quadrivalent HPV vaccination on CIN lesions (I, II, an...

Correlations of HPV vaccine uptake among eight-grade students in Israel: the importance of ethnicity and level of religious observance
This article explores which demographic factors are correlated with HPV vaccination rates. HPV vaccination data for the school year 2017-2018 was assessed among members of Maccabi Healthcare Services, the second largest health service provider in Israel. By matching eighth grade students to their family members' demographic data via an electronic medical records (EMR) system, we assessed vaccination rates by taking into account sex, socioeconomic status (SES), ethnic categorization, and maternal characteristics. In a total of 45,160 eligible students, 55.3 percent of girls and 48.5 percent of boys were vaccinated for HPV. ...

Impact, cost-effectiveness, and budget implications of HPV vaccination in Kenya: A modelling study
CONCLUSION: HPV vaccination for girls is highly cost-effective in Kenya. Compared to GARDASIL-4, alternative products could provide similar or greater health benefits at lower net costs. Substantial government funding will be required to reach and sustain coverage targets as Kenya graduates from Gavi support. A single dose strategy is likely to have similar benefits for less cost.PMID:37296015 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.019

Sexual and reproductive health needs of young women living with perinatally acquired HIV
CONCLUSION: High rates of unplanned pregnancy, STIs and cervical abnormalities highlight the continuing SRH needs of YWLPaHIV and requirement for open access to integrated HIV/SRH services despite pandemic restrictions.PMID:37279784 | DOI:10.1177/09564624231179768

Cross-neutralizing protection of vaginal and oral mucosa from HPV challenge by vaccination in a mouse model
Vaccine. 2023 Jun 1:S0264-410X(23)00618-7. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.057. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe species and tissue specificities of HPV (human papillomavirus) for human infection and disease complicates the process of prophylactic vaccine development in animal models. HPV pseudoviruses (PsV) that carry only a reporter plasmid have been utilized in vivo to demonstrate cell internalization in mouse mucosal epithelium. The current study sought to expand the application of this HPV PsV challenge model with both oral and vaginal inoculation and to demonstrate its utility for testing vaccine-mediated dual-site i...

High prevalence of HPV 18 and multiple infections with oncogenic HPV genotypes in women at risk of cervical cancer examined in Manaus, Brazil
Braz J Med Biol Res. 2023 May 29;56:e12720. doi: 10.1590/1414-431X2023e12720. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTCervical cancer is a serious public health problem in Brazil, especially in Manaus (Amazonas), the city with the highest incidence rate of cervical cancer in the country. Persistent infection with oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes is the cause of disease development. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of oncogenic genotypes in women at high risk for cervical precancer examined in two policlinics in Manaus. One hundred and two patients who underwent colposcopy took part in the research. Th...
