An Applied Linguistics Study of How Students Prevent Embarrassments and Impositions During Interactive Examination OSCEs
CONCLUSION: Participants were less aware that discussing sensitive topics could cause embarrassment to patients, with the potential to upset them. Developing teaching and evaluation methods to consider patients' face needs could help in assessing and improving pharmacy students' communication skills.PMID:37597917 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajpe.2023.100103

Increasing Cultural Awareness in the Advanced Nursing Practice Program Through Active Learning
This article describes active learning and theatrical techniques used in a grant-funded workshop to increase cultural awareness among ANP students, nurse educators, and simulated patients. The participants' increased understanding of their potential biases can create a psychologically safe and bias-free OSCE for culturally diverse students.PMID:37594427 | DOI:10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001175

Remembered childhood mealtime experiences influence on early childcare and education staff
Appetite. 2023 Aug 16:107003. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2023.107003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParent feeding styles, behaviors, beliefs, and practices are associated with developing children's eating behaviors. However, many children spend considerable time in childcare; thus, are exposed to child-feeding practices of other adults, e.g., early care and education (ECE) staff. Limited research exists on how and whether current classroom feeding practices of ECE staff associate with their own childhood experiences. The About Feeding Children survey, conducted in 2005, examined self-reported feeding practices and beliefs and p...

Effect of particle size of nanoscale zero-valent copper on inorganic phosphorus adsorption-desorption in a volcanic ash soil
This study showed that plausible IP retention mechanisms in the presence of 1% Cu-ENPs in SB soil were: i) ligand exchange, ii) electrostatic attraction, and iii) co-precipitate formation. The desorption study demonstrated that 1% Cu-ENPs/40-60 nm increased the affinity of IP in SB soil with a greater effect than 1% Cu-ENPs/25 nm. Thus, both the studied size ranges of Cu-ENPs could favor an accumulation of IP in volcanic ash soils.PMID:37595691 | DOI:10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139836
