Scutellarin Protects Against Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Suppressing NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation
ConclusionsThe cardioprotective effect of Scu was achieved through its anti-inflammatory effect. It suppressed the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome. In addition, inflammasome restriction by Scu was dependent on Akt activation and mTORC1 inhibition.

Picroside II protects against cholestatic liver injury possibly through activation of farnesoid X receptor
ConclusionOur findings demonstrate that picroside II exerts protective effect on ANIT-induced cholestasis possibly through FXR activation that regulates the transporters and enzymes involved in bile acid homeostasis. Picroside II might be an effective approach for the prevention and treatment of cholestatic liver diseases.Graphical abstract

Gynostemma pentaphyllum saponins induce melanogenesis and activate cAMP/PKA and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways
ConclusionThese findings demonstrated strong melanogenic activities of GpS, and the MITF is essential for the melanogenesis stimulated by GpS.Graphical abstract

Crucifera sulforaphane (SFN) inhibits the growth of nasopharyngeal carcinoma through DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1)/ Wnt inhibitory factor 1 (WIF1) axis
Conclusion: Taken together, we demonstrated that SFN could suppress the growth of NPC cells via the DNMT1/WIF1 axis.Graphical abstract

Prenylated Xanthones from Metaxya rostrata suppress FoxM1 and induce active cell death by distinct mechanisms
ConclusionIn summary, our data clearly showed that XB and OH-XB are promising new lead compounds for cancer therapy with distinct cellular mechanisms. Both compounds are candidates for further pre-clinical and clinical investigations.Graphical abstract

Aloperine induces apoptosis and G2/M cell cycle arrest in hepatocellular carcinoma cells through the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway
ConclusionWe first demonstrated that ALO induced apoptosis and G2/M cell cycle arrest in HCC cells through inhibition of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. This study provides a rationale for ALO as a potential chemotherapeutic agent for HCC.Graphical abstract

A novel hybrid of 3-benzyl coumarin seco-B-ring derivative and phenylsulfonylfuroxan induces apoptosis and autophagy in non-small-cell lung cancer
ConclusionThese findings raise a rationale that this 3-benzyl coumarin seco-B-ring derivative and phenylsulfonylfuroxan hybrid could be a promising candidate for developing as a therapeutic agent toward NSCLC, and the combination therapy through PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway may result in optimized treatment outcomes.Graphical Abstract

Identification of Amentoflavone as a potent highly selective PARP-1 inhibitor and its potentiation on carboplatin in human Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
ConclusionsAll results suggest that AMF can be a potential PARP-1 inhibitor and a candidate adjuvant agent to boost the anticancer effect of CBP in NSCLC.Graphical abstract

Yangonin protects against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease through farnesoid X receptor
ConclusionsYangonin protects against NAFLD due to its activation of FXR signalling to inhibit hepatic lipogenesis and gluconeogenesis, and to promote lipid metabolism and glycogen synthesis, as well as insulin sensitivity.Graphical abstract

Contribution of human UDP-glucuronosyltransferases to the antioxidant effects of propolis, artichoke and silymarin
Conclusion: In conclusion, this study provides a possible molecular mechanism for protective antioxidant effects associated with the herbal drugs propolis, artichoke and silymarin. The herbal drug-mediated transcriptional upregulation of human detoxifying UGT1A enzymes via activation of AhR and Nrf2 leads to reduced hydrogen peroxide and oxidative stress. Because of UGT1A activation, the intake of these drugs could affect the therapeutic efficacy of other drugs when these also undergo metabolism by glucuronidation.Graphical abstract

Dendrobine targeting JNK stress signaling to sensitize chemotoxicity of cisplatin against non-small cell lung cancer cells in vitro and in vivo
ConclusionsThe combination treatment showed enhanced anticancer activity toward non-small cell lung cancer cells without aggravating the cardiotoxic effects of cisplatin suggesting that the combination strategy deserves further investigation for human lung cancer treatment.Graphical Abstract
