A Newly Synthesized platinum-based Compound (PBC-II) Increases Chemosensitivity of HeLa Ovarian Cancer Cells Via Inhibition of Autophagy
Publication date: Available online 16 October 2019Source: Saudi Pharmaceutical JournalAuthor(s): Moureq Rashed Alotaibi, Homood Moqbel As Sobeai, Faten Abdullah Alaqil, Mashal Almutairi, Khalid Alhazzani, Adam A.A. Sulaiman, Anvarhusein A. Isab, Nasser Hadal AlotaibiAbstractthere are many mechanisms of resistance, chemoresistance of HeLa cells to anti-cancer agents seems to be autophagy-mediated. While using very effective anti-cancers such as Doxorubicin and cisplatin, cells overcome the cytotoxicity of these drugs through promotion of what so-called cytoprotective autophagy. Here in this study, we sought to introduce a n...

Graphene Quantum Dots: Synthesis, Characterization, Cell Viability, Genotoxicity for Biomedical Applications
We report the synthesis and applications of a novel N-doped graphene quantum dots (GQDs) using hydrothermal reaction between citric acid and p-aminophenol. The synthesized N-doped GQDs have been characterized physico-chemically and evaluated its antioxidant, antimicrobial, DNA binding and cleavage activities. siRNA loading studies were performed and their effects on cells were evaluated. Obtained results indicate that monodisperse solution of N-doped GQDs has been obtained with particles size ca. ∼10.9±1.3 nm. UV-Vis spectroscopy studies of the interactions between the N-doped GQDs and calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) showed th...

STAT3-siRNA induced B16.F10 melanoma cell death: more association with VEGF downregulation than p-STAT3 knockdown
Publication date: Available online 30 May 2018Source: Saudi Pharmaceutical JournalAuthor(s): Aws AlshamsanAbstractSTAT3 knockdown by small interfering RNA (siRNA) has been described to inhibit carcinogenic growth in various types of tumors. Earlier we have reported delivery of siRNA by oleic acid- and stearic acid-modified-polyethylenimine and enhancement of silencing of STAT3 by small interfering RNA (siRNA) in B16.F10 melanoma cell lines and consequent tumor suppression. Present investigation mainly focused on the downstream events involved in B16.F10 melanoma cell death and consequent tumor suppression following knockdo...
