Angiography-based hemodynamic features predict recurrent ischemic events after angioplasty and stenting of intracranial vertebrobasilar atherosclerotic stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with intracranial vertebrobasilar atherosclerosis treated with PTAS, preprocedural prolonged TTP of the target vessel and shortened trans-stenotic TTP difference were associated with stroke relapse. Q-DSA-defined hemodynamic parameters provided incremental predictive value over conventional parameters for stroke recurrence.CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Quantitative DSA analysis enables intuitive observation and semi-quantitative evaluation of peri-therapeutic cerebral blood flow. More importantly, quantitative DSA-defined hemodynamic parameters have the potential for risk stratification of patients...

Sex differences in the management of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
Atherosclerosis. 2023 Sep 1:117268. doi: 10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.117268. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisparities between women and men persist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Despite growing attention to sex-based differences in cardiovascular care, there are continued disparities in short- and long-term outcomes. Such disparities highlight the need to identify pathophysiologic differences in treatment patterns for stable ischemic heart disease, non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTE-ACS), ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), and myocardial...

A circadian rhythm-restricted diet regulates autophagy to improve cognitive function and prolong lifespan
Biosci Trends. 2023 Sep 17. doi: 10.5582/bst.2023.01221. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiet and circadian rhythms have been found to have a profound impact on health, disease, and aging. Skipping breakfast, eating late, and overeating have adverse effects on the body's metabolism and increase the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Disturbance of circadian rhythms has been associated with increased risk of atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other diseases. Abnormal deposition of amyloid β (Aβ) and tau proteins in the brain and impaired synaptic function are linked to cognitive dysfu...

Association of thyroid peroxidase antibody with the RNF213 p.R4810K variant in ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated TPO-Ab levels may be significantly associated with presence of the RNF213 p. R4810K variant in IS/TIA patients. Thus, TPO-Ab may inherently modify IS/TIA development in RNF213 p. R4810K variant carriers.PMID:37722316 | DOI:10.1016/j.atherosclerosis.2023.117281

Use of Coronary Artery Calcium Quantification and Distribution for Coronary Vascular Disease Risk Reclassification in a Primary Prevention Setting
In conclusion, the use of MESA-CACS, along with CAC distribution in primary prevention clinics, results in differential and significant reclassification of traditional scores when calculating the 10-years coronary vascular disease risk. Overall, RRS underestimates and ASCVD overestimates the cardiovascular disease risk compared with MESA-CACS.PMID:37722228 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjcard.2023.08.054

Melatonin as a therapeutic agent for alleviating endothelial dysfunction in cardiovascular diseases: Emphasis on oxidative stress
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 16;167:115475. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115475. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe vascular endothelium is vital in maintaining cardiovascular health by regulating vascular permeability and tone, preventing thrombosis, and controlling vascular inflammation. However, when oxidative stress triggers endothelial dysfunction, it can lead to chronic cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This happens due to oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammatory responses, and reduced levels of nitric oxide. These factors cause damage to endothelial cells, leading to the acceleration of CVD progr...

Angiogenesis inhibitor-specific hypertension increases the risk of developing aortic dissection
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 16;167:115504. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115504. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAortic dissection is an adverse event of angiogenesis inhibitors; however, the association between the drugs and aortic dissection is unclear. Therefore, we investigated if and how angiogenesis inhibitors increase the onset of aortic dissection using pharmacologically-induced aortic dissection-prone model (LAB) mice, cultured endothelial cells, and real-world databases, which is a novel integrated research approach. Disproportionality analysis was performed and calculated using the reporting odds ratio as a risk si...

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 inhibitor downregulates microRNA-130a-3p expression in hepatocytes to alleviates atherosclerosis progression
This study explores the effect and potential mechanism of PCSK9 inhibitors on lipid metabolism and coronary atherosclerosis. HepG2 cells were incubated with PCSK9 inhibitor. ApoE-/- mice were fed with a high fat to construct an atherosclerosis model, and then treated with PCSK9 inhibitor (8 mg/kg for 8 w). PCSK9 inhibitor downregulated microRNA (miRNA)-130a-3p expression in a dose-dependent manner. And, miR-130a-3p could bind directly to the 3' untranslated region (3'-UTR) region of LDLR to down-regulate LDLR expression in HepG2 cells, as confirmed by the luciferase reporter gene assay. In addition, miR-130a-3p overexpress...
