Extended reality as a health education strategy of adolescents at school: protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis
The objective of this study is to present a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol that seeks to evaluate the main effects of interventions that use XR on health parameters (food intake, sound quality and physical activity) of adolescent students. Methods and analysis The literature search will be performed in the following databases: MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, ERIC, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Cochrane, LILACS, APA and ADOLEC. Intervention studies (clinical trials—randomised or non-randomised) and quasi-experimental studies will be included. The risk of bias will be assessed using the Risk of Bias in Non-ran...

Measurement of and training for NCD guideline implementation in LMICs: a scoping review protocol
The objective of this scoping review is to identify the existing variation in how, why and by whom implementation of NCD guidelines is measured as part of implementation research or non-research programme improvement. Methods and analysis Using the methods established by Arksey and O’Malley, the search strategy was developed in consultation with a research librarian together with stakeholder feedback from content experts. We will apply the search to multiple electronic databases and grey literature sources. Two reviewers will independently screen title and abstract for inclusion followed by a full-text screening and...

Low-dose intravenous immunoglobulin for children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia: protocol of a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) is a first-line treatment for children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). However, the cost of IVIg is high. Higher doses of IVIg are associated with a more insupportable financial burden to paediatric patients’ families and may produce more adverse reactions. Whether low-dose IVIg can quickly stop bleeding and induce a durable response in treating children with newly diagnosed ITP is not yet established. Methods and analysis We will extensively search five English databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials...

Instruments in general practice to identify and to measure (over)burden due to informal care for caring relatives: a scoping review protocol
The objective of this review is to give an overview of instruments to identify and measure (over)burden of caring relatives in German general practice and to describe their characteristics. Methods and analysis We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist in addition to the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer’s Manual to describe the aims and methods of the planned scoping reviews. This protocol has been registered with Open Science Framework (OSF), https://osf.io/9ce2k. Two reviewers will run the search to identify studies in four d...

Development of a novel instrument for assessing intentional non-adherence to official medical recommendations (iNAR-12): a sequential mixed-methods study in Serbia
Conclusions We constructed a brief yet comprehensive measure of iNAR behaviours and related them to health and sociodemographic variables and irrational beliefs. The findings suggest that public health interventions should attempt to improve patients' experiences with the system and build trust with their healthcare practitioners rather than aim at specific demographic groups or at correcting patients’ unfounded beliefs. Study registration The design and confirmatory analyses plan were preregistered (https://osf.io/pnugm).

Current practices in studies applying the target trial emulation framework: a protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Observational studies represent an alternative to estimate real-world causal effects in the absence of available randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Target trial emulation is a framework for the application of RCT design principles to emulate a hypothetical open-label RCT (the hypothetical target trial) using existing observational data as the primary data source as opposed to the prospective recruitment and measurement of randomised units. The aim of this systematic review is to investigate the practices of studies applying the target trial emulation framework to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. ...

Barriers and facilitators to accessing and using sexual and reproductive health services during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Africa: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis
Introduction Access and utilisation of sexual and reproductive health services remain an important component in averting adverse sexual and reproductive health outcomes. However, the unprecedented emergence of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) left most of these services disrupted in Africa. Thus, this protocol study seeks to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of barriers and facilitators to accessing and using sexual and reproductive health services during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Africa. Method and analysis An open electronic database search will be conducted in African journals online, PubMed,...

Impact of emotional competence on physicians clinical reasoning: a scoping review protocol
This article presents a scoping review protocol, the aim of which will be to describe the current state of knowledge concerning the influence of EC on physicians’ CR, the type of available literature and finally the different methods used to examine the link between EC and CR. Method and analysis The population of interest is physicians and medical students. EC will be explored according to the model of Mikolajczak et al, describing five major components of EC (identify, understand, express, regulate and use emotions). The concept of CR will include terms related to its processes and outcomes. Context will include r...

Effectiveness of integrated chronic care models for cardiometabolic multimorbidity in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Integrated care improved SBP among patients living with cardiometabolic multimorbidity in SSA. More studies on integrated care are required to improve the evidence pool on chronic care models for multimorbidity in SSA. These include implementation studies and cost-effectiveness studies. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020187756.

Health literacy and musculoskeletal disorders in adolescents: a scoping review
Conclusion Few studies have addressed HL and MSDs in adolescents explicitly, while most studies have considered dimensions of HL. Our findings suggest that there is important work to be done to align conceptual understandings with the measurement of HL in adolescents and that further research should be carried out to explore how HL is distributed among adolescents with MSDs and how adolescents living with MSDs report their HL.

Emotional freedom technique versus written exposure therapy versus waiting list for post-traumatic stress disorder: protocol for a randomised clinical MRI study
This study was designed as a randomised, assessor-blinded, three-arm clinical MRI study. A total of 120 eligible patients with PTSD will be recruited and randomised into EFT, written exposure therapy (WET) or WL groups. EFT and WET will be applied once a week for 5 weeks. For patients in the WL group, EFT will be performed after 12 weeks. PTSD symptoms, depression, anxiety, somatic symptoms and quality of life will be evaluated. Assessments will be conducted at baseline (week 0), post-treatment (week 6) and follow-up (week 12). Structural and functional brain images and recording videos of facial expressions to emotional s...
