Impact assessment of a raw coal ban on maternal and child health outcomes in Ulaanbaatar: a protocol for an interrupted time series study
Introduction Despite a decade of policy actions, Ulaanbaatar’s residents continue to be exposed to extreme levels of air pollution, a major public health concern, especially for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children. In May 2019, the Mongolian government implemented a raw coal ban (RCB), prohibiting distribution and use of raw coal in households and small businesses in Ulaanbaatar. Here, we present the protocol for an interrupted time series (ITS; a strong quasi-experimental study design for public health interventions) that aims to assess the effectiveness of this coal ban policy on environmenta...

Mapping evidence on the acceptability of human papillomavirus self-sampling for cervical cancer screening among women in sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review
Conclusion Evidence shows that HPVSS is highly acceptable for cervical cancer screening in sub-Saharan Africa. Further research exploring the acceptability of HPVSS among women residing in rural areas is required, as well as studies to determine women’s preferences for HPVSS intervention including the preferred type of sampling devices. Knowledge on the acceptability and preferences for HPVSS is important in designing women-centred interventions that have the potential to increase screening coverage and participation in cervical cancer screening programmes.

Experiences and support needs of informal long-distance caregivers at the end of life: a scoping review
Conclusions Further quantitative and mixed-methods studies should be undertaken to improve our understanding of LD caregiving for relatives at the end of life. Studies to explore the feasibility and implementation of communication technologies in end-of-life LD caregiving are also needed.

Diagnostic accuracy of clinical diagnostic scoring systems for childhood tuberculosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol
Introduction Diagnosis of childhood tuberculosis (TB) poses several challenges. Therefore, clinical signs and symptoms, radiological studies, laboratory examinations, point-based scoring systems or diagnostic algorithms have been developed to improve diagnostic yields in this population. However, there are limited data on the diagnostic test accuracy of paediatric TB scoring systems. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis aims to synthesise the available evidence on the diagnostic accuracy of childhood TB diagnostic scoring systems. Methods and analysis This protocol describes a systematic review, developed i...

Comparison of tube shunt implantation and trabeculectomy for glaucoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Compared with trabeculectomy, both Ahmed and Ex-PRESS appear to be associated with similar ocular hypotensive effects and lower incidences of AEs. However, Baerveldt and XEN cannot achieve sufficient reductions in IOP outcomes similar to those of trabeculectomy. PROSPERO registration number CRD42021257852.

Well-being focused interventions for caregivers of children with developmental disabilities: a scoping review protocol
Discussion The proposed scoping review will give an extensive review of interventions aimed at improving the well-being of caregivers of children with DD. This scoping review would provide recommendations on interventions that have significantly improved the well-being caregivers of children with DD. Additionally, the review would guide future work on intervention development and primary research in this field. Registration This scoping review protocol has been registered with the Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/tkbrh).

Scoping review of methods for engaging long-term care residents living with dementia in research and guideline development
Conclusions We found a small body of literature describing the engagement of LTC residents in health research and guideline development. Future work should explore alternative methods to engage LTC residents living with dementia, including art-based methods, and the effect of including resident engagement. Guideline developers and researchers should ensure adequate time and human resources are allocated to support engagement.

Strategies used to manage overlap of primary study data by exercise-related overviews: protocol for a systematic methodological review
This study will not involve human subjects and therefore does not require ethics committee approval. However, the conduct and reporting of the findings of this review will be conducted in a rigorous, systematic and transparent manner, which relates to research ethics. The findings of this review will be presented at scientific conferences and published as one or more studies in peer-review scientific journals related to rehabilitation or research methods.

Optimum duration of extended adjuvant endocrine therapy in patients with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer: protocol for a network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Introduction The type of extended adjuvant endocrine therapy is not clear, nor is the optimum duration of extended adjuvant endocrine therapy for patients with early breast cancer. Our study aims to satisfy the requirements for systematically identifying and synthesising the available evidence on the clinical safety and efficacy of extended adjuvant endocrine therapy for patients with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer. Methods and analysis A comprehensive electronic literature database search will be performed using three electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase (Ovid interface). Our main outc...

Parents experience of children with acquired brain injury undergoing neuro-rehabilitation: thematic synthesis protocol
Introduction Children with moderate to severe acquired brain injury frequently require a period of demanding medical and rehabilitative care to optimise their long-term capabilities and quality of life. Usually, the initial acute care is provided in tertiary centres and can last up to 12 months following the original injury. Parents of children with acquired brain injury share that experience with their child and face many different challenges encountered as their child’s long-term needs become apparent. Parents are essential partners in care, hence there is a need to better understand their experiences to support th...

Dismantling cognitive-behavioural therapy components for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in adolescents and adults: protocol for a network meta-analysis
Introduction Cognitive–behavioural therapy (CBT) consists of multiple treatment techniques for each treatment model and is tailored to the patient’s characteristics. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have reported that CBT is effective for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); however, which CBT components are effective is unknown. In order to provide the best treatment technique, it is important to know which therapeutic component or combination thereof is more effective and what the specific effect size is. Methods and analysis We will perform component network meta-analysis (cNMA). The search w...

Effect of school-based nutrition interventions among primary school children in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review protocol
Introduction Preadolescents are passing through an intensive growth and development period that will benefit from healthy eating practices. For those attending school, school environments offer several potential benefits and have been demonstrated to influence the quality of dietary intakes and consequentially, nutritional status of school-aged children (SAC). Considering the amount of time children spend in school and the enormous potential of evidence-based interventions, the purpose of this review is to critically appraise peer-reviewed literature addressing the impact of school-based interventions on the nutritional st...

Perspectives of individuals on reducing meat consumption to mitigate climate change: protocol for a scoping review
Introduction High consumption of red and processed meat increases the risk of several chronic diseases. Many people, especially in high-income countries, eat more meat than recommended by nutritional and health agencies. Meat production also has negative impacts on the environment and contributes to climate change. Therefore, climate protection, besides health or animal welfare, could motivate individuals to eat less meat. Willingness to reduce meat consumption and motives to do so are not yet fully understood. Methods and analysis Based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension f...

Appraisal of published guidelines in European countries addressing the clinical care of childhood sexual abuse: protocol for a systematic review
Introduction Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is a global public health problem with potentially severe health and mental health consequences. Healthcare professionals (HCPs) should be familiar with risk factors and potential indicators of CSA, and able to provide appropriate medical management. The WHO issued global guidelines for the clinical care of children with CSA, based on rigorous review of the evidence base. The current systematic review identifies existing CSA guidelines issued by government agencies and academic societies in the European Region and assesses their quality and clarity to illuminate strengths and ident...
