The Effect of Staged Versus Usual Care Physiotherapy on Knee Function Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
CONCLUSION: A staged approach to ACLR rehabilitation does not appear to impede knee function at 6 months postoperative but may result in worse patient reported outcomes at early follow-ups.PMID:37699588 | DOI:10.1123/jsr.2022-0343

Physical and well-being effect of scapular Kinesio taping combined with conventional physiotherapy in shoulder impingement syndrome: A randomized controlled study
CONCLUSION: Both conventional physiotherapy programs and additional scapular KT improved scapular dyskinesia, reduced pain, and increased the upper extremity function. Adding scapular KT to treatment did not change the results, but it had positive psychological effects and yielded a high satisfaction rate.PMID:37694348 | DOI:10.3233/BMR-220396

Dancing around the hexaflex: Using ACT in practice 4
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) can be slippery to describe. It’s an approach that doesn’t aim to change thought content, but instead to help us shift the way we relate to what our mind tells us. It’s also an approach focused on workability: pragmatic and context-specific analysis of how well a strategy is working to achieve being able to do what matters. Over the next few posts I want to give some examples of how non-psychologists can use ACT in session (remember ACT is open for anyone to use it!). Willingess (Acceptance) – Choosing to experience it all Do you remember the poignancy of a beloved ...

Does feeling pain help prepare future clinicians to treat pain? A qualitative exploration of a novel experiential approach to teaching health professional students about pain
CONCLUSION: Integrating first-hand pain experiences within entry-level physiotherapy training appears to have novel value in helping students understand pain subjectivity. Future research should use robust and controlled designs to explore how this novel approach can be used to facilitate further understanding and empathy within clinical interactions with people living with pain.PMID:37682624 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2254367

Amsterdam complex pelvic pain symptom scale with subscales: Based on a Norwegian translation, psychometric assessment and modification of the Amsterdam hyperactive pelvic floor scale
ConclusionsA modified Norwegian version ACPPS-30 was presented, in addition to a shorter version with only 16 of the translated items distributed among five factors similar to the original Dutch version (ACPPS-16). Both versions proved to be valid, stable and reliable tools to investigate complex pelvic pain symptoms possibly due to an abnormally high-toned pelvic floor muscle.

The effect of patient-led goal setting approach combined with pain neuroscience education or manual therapy in patients with chronic low back pain: protocol for a parallel-group randomized controlled trial
DiscussionThis trial will demonstrate which supplementary intervention can better improve the impact of a patient-led goal-setting approach to treat LBP. If successful, the results will potentially have implications for athletic trainers, physiotherapists, and health care practitioners.Trial registrationIRCT Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials IRCT20210927052616N1. Serratus anterior fascia plane block for pain control in patients with multiple rib fractures
Conclusion] We report the cases of three patients who completed respiratory physiotherapy after receiving intermittent SAP blocks for the management of pain due to multiple rib fractures. SAP blocks are associated with a low risk of complications as the ribs are not punctured while performing SAP blocks.PMID:37670765 | PMC:PMC10475645 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.35.673

An investigation of upper extremity function, sleep quality, and functional independence in patients with poststroke shoulder pain: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: PSSP impairs upper extremity functions, which play an important role in activities of daily living, and reduces functional independence. These results suggest that it is important to evaluate shoulder pain and examine the factors affecting pain in the rehabilitation of patients with stroke.PMID:37651602 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2023.2253313
