Pregnancy complicated with aortic dissection: Two cases report
This study aims to investigate the characteristics of pregnancy complicated with aortic dissection (AD), diagnosis and treatment plan, and maternal and infant outcomes. Patient concerns: Two pregnant women suffered persistent back pain were admitted to Hubei Maternal and Child Health Hospital from December 2019 to December 2020. Diagnosis: Pregnant women with chest and back pain and especially hypertension should be highly suspected of AD. However, to confirm diagnosis results, laboratory tests such as D-dimer, fibrinogen and white blood cells, and even some Special examination, cardiac ultrasound, computed t...

Ovarian remnant syndrome with paraintestinal ovarian serous cystadenofibroma arose 30 years after bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy: A case report
We report a rare case of ORS with paraintestinal ovarian serous cystadenofibroma that developed 30 years after total abdominal hysterectomy and BSO in a 73-year-old woman. Patient concerns: A 73-year-old woman complained of long-term lower abdominal discomfort. Diagnosis: She was diagnosed with a cystic lesion in the lower abdomen on transabdominal ultrasonography. Further diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests could not exclude a diagnosis of malignancy. Interventions: The patient underwent laparoendoscopic single-site surgery. We found one cystic lesion 5 cm in size with multiple septa that was ad...

Translational aspect in peptide drug discovery and development: An emerging therapeutic candidate
AbstractIn the last two decades, protein –protein interactions (PPIs) have been used as the main target for drug development. However, with larger or superficial binding sites, it has been extremely difficult to disrupt PPIs with small molecules. On the other hand, intracellular PPIs cannot be targeted by antibodies that cannot penetrate the cell membrane. Peptides that have a combination of conformational rigidity and flexibility can be used to target difficult binding interfaces with appropriate binding affinity and specificity. Since the introduction of insulin nearly a century ago, more than 80 peptide drugs have bee...

Trigeminal neuropathy after tozinameran vaccination against COVID-19 in postmicrovascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia: illustrative case
J Neurosurg Case Lessons. 2022 Apr 18;3(16):CASE22101. doi: 10.3171/CASE22101. Print 2022 Apr 18.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 have a high level of efficacy and safety across all populations. However, numerous case series have been published on neurological disorders, including Bell's palsy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, transverse myelitis, and multiple sclerosis. The authors presented a case of trigeminal neuropathy after coronavirus vaccination in a patient who had undergone microvascular decompression (MVD) for trigeminal neuralgia (TN).OBSERVATIONS: A 77-year-old woman presented with acute t...

Single balloon enteroscopy-guided endoscopic retrograde pancreatography for the treatment of a symptomatic pancreatic pseudocyst complicated by pancreaticojejunostomy stricture: A case report
Rationale: Endoscopic treatment of a pancreatic pseudocyst complicated by pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) stricture is challenging. Patient concerns: A 76-year-old woman presented with worsening abdominal pain and dyspepsia. She had been receiving adjuvant chemotherapy (capecitabine and cisplatin) for 4 months after pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) for the treatment of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Diagnoses: Laboratory findings included elevated serum amylase (145 U/L) and lipase (437 U/L) levels. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a pancreatic pseudocyst of approximately 3 cm in...

The effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy on large neurogenic heterotopic ossification in a patient with pontine hemorrhage: A case report and literature review
We report a case of a 36-year-old man who developed HO around both hip joints 3 months after bilateral pontine hemorrhage. Interventions: Seven months after HO development, ESWT was administered to the area of HO every other day for a total of 10 sessions. Outcomes: Immediately following treatment, the ROM of both hip joints increased. Thus the patient was able to maintain a sitting posture without having to be bound to the wheelchair. In addition, the tolerable sitting time before groaning increased from less than ten minutes to almost 60 minutes by the end of all ESWT sessions. Unlike other previous reports...

Evaluation of musculoskeletal pain and related factors in school-age children (8-12 years)
CONCLUSION: Excessive walking and sitting were associated with increased MSP. Contrary to popular opinion, it was found that school bag weight and school bag type were not effective on MSP. Our results show that the quality of life of children can be improved by reducing MSP.PMID:36300740 | DOI:10.14744/agri.2021.04378
