The short-term effect of PRP on chronic pain in knee osteoarthritis.
This study measured the short-term efficacy of PRP on chronic pain in patients with OA of the knee. METHODS: Patients with chronic knee pain and grade 2-4 knee OA based on the Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) classification were enrolled in the study. A total of 60 knee joints of 42 patients who completed 3 doses of intraarticular PRP injections administered at intervals of 3 weeks were analyzed. The patients' pain was evaluated using a resting and activity visual analog scale (VAS) on day 0, and at week 3, 6, and 12. RESULTS: Of the 42 patients, 37 were female. The mean age and body mass index was 60.52+-10.41 years and 28...

[A retrospective investigation of the efficiency of transforaminal anterior epidural steroid injections in patients with low back pain and the effects of interventional pain therapy on quality of life].
Authors: Taşdemir BB, Aydın ON Abstract OBJECTIVES: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the efficacy of transforaminal anterior epidural steroid and local anesthetic injections (TAESE) and the effects on quality of life in patients with low back pain. METHODS: The study patients (n=191) were divided into 3 groups: disc herniation (DH), failed back surgery (FBS), and spinal stenosis (SS). A visual analog scale (VAS) and verbal pain scale (VPS) were used to assess patient pain. Scores were measured before treatment (VAS 0), in the first month of application (VAS 1), 3 months (VAS 3), and 6 month...

Transforaminal epidural steroid injection and infraneural approach.
This report is a description of an approach to avoid the complication of injury to the AKA related to transforaminal epidural injection. A 71-year-old male patient presented at the clinic with radiculopathy secondary to lumbar disc hernia. A transforaminal epidural steroid injection was planned. After a radiocontrast injection, vascular filling was detected. The needle was repositioned and an inferior entrance to the epidural space was used. No vascularity was seen and dexamethasone was administered to the patient. A transforaminal epidural steroid injection is an effective interventional treatment for radicular pain, but ...

Treatment of calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff with platelet-rich plasma injection: A case report.
Authors: Gula G, Ketenci A Abstract Rotator cuff calcific tendinitis is a common shoulder disorder that usually subsides spontaneously. Some patients, however, do not show any improvement in the pain after conservative treatment for an extended period of time. The aim of this report was to demonstrate the improvement in a patient with calcific tendinitis of infraspinatus following treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Although the efficacy of PRP therapy in this condition is uncertain, it can be an effective treatment option in refractory cases. PMID: 30995330 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Agri Dergisi)

Evaluation of ultrasonography probe disinfection habits in peripheral and/or central regional blocks applied with ultrasound guidance.
CONCLUSION: Although the most commonly used disinfectant povidone iodide and disinfection training rate is less than 50%, the incidence of UGRA-associated infection is very low. In our country, we believe that the study has provided data on the preferences of disinfection methods of anesthetists in UGRA applications. However, we believe that it is required to be worked in larger study groups that include more anesthesiologists, in order to provide more generalizable data. Authors: Kumaş Solak S, Tulga T Abstract Hearing loss after spinal anesthesia is one of the rare complications. It has been suggested that low frequent hearing loss develops after the development of endolymphatic hydrops in the cochlea due to CSF escape after dural puncture. Hearing loss after nonotologic surgical procedures is very rare and usually can only be determined by audiometric evaluation. We aimed to present the sudden unilateral hearing loss and healing process in a patient who underwent spinal anesthesia for elective anterior cruciate ligament surgery in this postoperative period. PDPH causes patient discomfort following spinal anesthesia and therefore it presents a challenging situation for anesthetists. METHODS: This prospective randomized study enrolled 613 patients who were 18 years or older and who had been operated under spinal anesthesia. The spinal anesthesia procedure was performed with the patient in a sitting position through the L3-4, L4-5 interspaces, using 25 and 26 gauge (G) quincke and pencil-point spinal needles. ...

Laparoscopic gastrostomy under awake thoracic epidural anesthesia: A successful experience.
Authors: Karaca Ö, Pınar HU, Duman E, Doğan R Abstract General anesthesia is the first choice as an anesthesia method particularly for abdominal operations. However, because neuromuscular blockade induced during general anesthesia will increase atelectasis in a patient with pulmonary disease, it will also increase postoperative ventilator dependence, which will be even more apparent in cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that pose a risk, particularly for postoperative complications. Herein, thoracic epidural anesthesia (TEA) was found to be a better option for our patient with severe COPD ...

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension without headache: A case report and literature review.
This study reports the case of a 23-year-old man with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) who presented with blurred vision and diplopia, without accompanying headache. Although headache is the most common symptom associated with IIH, occasionally, it may not be observed clinically. This situation is more frequently observed in males, young adults, children, and in patients with low body mass index. This case highlights a crucial aspect; patients who present with serious visual symptoms without headache must be treated aggressively because vision loss will develop rapidly. Treatment of postoperative pain and non-pharmacologic practices in nursing systematic review: Results of Turkish doctoral dissertation in 2000-2015.
CONCLUSION: Non-pharmacologic pain management is an effective way to reduce pain severity and it can be independently used by nurses. Researchers of dissertations often choose non-pharmacologic practices that have no side effects, have minimum risk, are not detrimental to patients, are easy to administer, and are cost-efficient. Effective non-pharmacologic methods specific to groups by age, sex, and medical diagnosis should be identified by literature review for each non-pharmacologic method in future studies. Characteristics of headache and its relationship with disease severity in patients with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever.
CONCLUSION: CCHF patients had more often and severe headaches than the controls. Although SUNCT is usually refractory to treatment, several antiepileptic drugs have recently shown promising results for its treatment. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the course of SUNCT during pregnancy and the available treatment options. Here, we present a 30-week pregnant female with SUNCT who was successfully treated with infr...
