The Black Box of Patient Education: An Expert Consultation on Patient Education Interventions and Strategies for the Management of Subacromial Pain Syndrome
CONCLUSION: The consultation confirmed and expanded the knowledge from the literature by adding knowledge that emerged from the experts' practical experience. It resulted in the development of preliminary statements on structured patient education interventions and management strategies for SAPS. Risk Stratification in a Tertiary Care Spine Centre: Comparison Between STarTBack and OSPRO-YF Screening Tools
CONCLUSIONS: STarTBack and OSPRO-YF are short screening tools with acceptable convergent and known-group construct validity and no floor or ceiling effect of their total score. Factors Related to Expectations in Individuals Waiting for Total Knee Arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: This questionnaire reliably measures patient expectations before TKA; however, further research is needed. Effect of transversus abdominis plane block on postoperative outcomes in gynecologic oncology patients managed on an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery pathway
CONCLUSIONS: Surgeon-administered TAP blocks were associated with decreased length of stay and post-operative opioid use in patients not receiving scheduled NSAIDs. The association between labour epidural analgesia and postpartum depression in primiparous patients: a historical cohort study
CONCLUSION: This historical cohort study found an association between LEA and PPD among primiparous patients who subsequently had a second pregnancy in the same province. Attitudes and Practices Surrounding Opioid Prescriptions following Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Distal Radius and Ankle Fractures: A Survey of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association Membership
CONCLUSIONS: The principle finding of this study is the lack of a standardized approach to postoperative prescribing in distal radius and ankle fractures, illustrated by the wide range in number of opioids prescribed by Canadian orthopaedic surgeons. Our data suggest a trend towards overprescription among respondents following distal radius and ankle ORIF. The Tailored Opioid Reduction Strategy (TORS): A Quality Improvement Initiative to Reduce Opioid Prescription Following Hysterectomy
CONCLUSION: TORS implementation was successful in reducing the rate of discharge opioid prescriptions and the total amount of opiates prescribed in patients undergoing hysterectomy with no decrease in patient satisfaction or change in postoperative pain scores.
