Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Infection of In-center Hemodialysis Patients: An Experience of a Dialysis Center from Pakistan
Saudi J Kidney Dis Transpl. 2022 Jan-Feb;33(1):16-30. doi: 10.4103/1319-2442.367808.ABSTRACTMuch has now been learned about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the general population, but data for hemodialysis (HD) patients are limited. This is the first study of COVID-19 disease in patients undergoing maintenance HD in Pakistan. We studied the epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, radiological characteristics, and outcomes of a cohort of HD patients that contracted COVID-19 in our HD center from the first confirmed case on May 12, 2020, until September 9, 2020. Out of the total 423 patients being dialyzed in our c...

Lessons from SENCOVAC: a prospective study evaluating the response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in the CKD spectrum
Nefrologia. 2022 Dec 16. doi: 10.1016/j.nefro.2022.12.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has negatively impacted on patients of the whole CKD spectrum, causing high rates of morbi-mortality. SARS-CoV-2 vaccines opened a new era, but patients with CKD (including kidney transplant, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) were systematically excluded from pivotal clinical trials. The Spanish Society of Nephrology promoted the multicentric national SENCOVAC study aimed at assessing immunological responses after vaccination in patients with CKD. During the first year af...

A child with crescentic glomerulonephritis following SARS-CoV-2 mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech) vaccination
ConclusionsThis is the first case of ANCA-negative CrGN after SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination in the pediatric population. As children are increasingly vaccinated with SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines, monitoring for kidney complications is warranted.

ICU Admission Risk Factors for Latinx COVID-19 Patients at a U.S.-Mexico Border Hospital
ConclusionFindings show that age, AKI, and male sex were the strongest predictors of COVID-19 ICU admissions in the primarily Latinx population at the U.S.-Mexico border. These predictors are also likely driven by socioeconomic inequalities which are most apparent in border hospitals.

High Prevalence of Long-COVID Among Kidney Transplant Recipients: A Longitudinal Cohort Study
Conclusion. In this cohort of kidney transplant recipients, Long-COVID was prevalent and associated with a reduced return to work. The burden of acute phase symptoms was the only risk factor associated with Long-COVID.

Tip Lesion Variant of Focal and Segmental Glomerulosclerosis in a COVID-19 Patient
Acute kidney injury is a common complication of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Several pathologic findings are continually being reported, showing a probably multifactorial etiology. The authors present a case of a patient diagnosed with a tip lesion variant of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in the setting of COVID-19. A 43-year-old African American female with no known renal disease presented to the emergency department with a 6-day history of fatigue, headache, hypoageusia, myalgia, cough, nausea, and vomiting. Laboratory tests confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. During hos...

Viruses, Vol. 14, Pages 2646: Immune Response to Third and Fourth COVID-19 Vaccination in Hemodialysis Patients and Kidney Transplant Recipients
ppel Florian Klein Christine Kurschat Roman-Ulrich Müller Veronica Di Cristanziano Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a serious hazard for hemodialysis (HD) patients and kidney transplant (KTX) recipients as they suffer from an impaired immune response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. In addition, a definition of SARS-CoV-2 IgG titer that indicates a sufficient immune response, especially against new omicron variants, is urgently needed. In the present study, the immune response to either a third or a fourth dose of a mRNA vaccine was investigated in 309 dialysis and 36 KTX patients...

Anti-GBM Disease after Oxford-AstraZeneca ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 Vaccination: A Report of Two Cases
We report two cases of anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) disease in previously healthy females after Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19). The first case was a 69-year-old female who developed lethargy and anuria approximately 8 weeks after her first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The second case was a 72-year-old female who developed malaise and diarrhoea approximately 3 weeks after her second dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Both cases had severe acute kidney injury, raised anti-GBM antibody titres, and renal biopsies consistent with anti-GBM disease. Both cases were comme...
