Assessment of the Suitability of the Fleischner Society Imaging Guidelines in Evaluating Chest Radiographs of COVID-19 Patients
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of pneumonia and adverse outcomes were different according to the symptoms and risk factors in COVID-19 patients. Therefore, as the Fleischner Society recommended, evaluation and monitoring of COVID-19 pneumonia using chest radiographs is necessary for old symptomatic patients with comorbidities.PMID:37401494 | PMC:PMC10318199 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e199

Foregrounding mental health and wellness
The plethora of research published on the experiences of radiographers during the coronavirus pandemic demonstrate the pandemic's toll on their mental health, workplace wellbeing and quality of life. From a general internet search, it would be observed that occupational stress, burnout and other psychological conditions were ubiquitous among radiographers globally. The spill-over effect on patients and service delivery did not paint much of a positive picture either. It can therefore be argued that the coronavirus pandemic made us acutely aware of the importance of having mechanisms in place to support the mental health an...

Pandemic preparedness of diagnostic radiographers during COVID-19: A scoping review
As chest imaging is a tool for detecting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), diagnostic radiographers are a key component of the frontline workforce. Due to its unforeseen nature, COVID-19 has challenged radiographers ’ preparedness in combating its effects. Despite its importance, literature specifically investigating radiographers’ readiness is limited. However, the documented experiences are prognostic of pandemic preparedness. Hence, this study aimed to map this literature by addressing the question: ‘w hat does the existing literature reveal about the pandemic preparedness of diagnostic radiographers during COVID-19?’.

Evaluation of testicles by sonoelastography in men recovering after Covid-19 disease
Testicular cells, seminiferous tubule cells, spermatogonia, Leydig and Sertoli cells showing angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 expression have the potential to be targets and to be damaged by the coronavirus. We aimed to use Two-Dimensional Shear Wave Elastography (2D-SWE) as an effective technique to identify parenchymal damage in the testicles of patients recovering from COVID-19 infection.

Imaging recommendations and algorithms for pediatric tuberculosis: part 1 —thoracic tuberculosis
AbstractTuberculosis (TB) remains a global health problem and is the second leading cause of death from a single infectious agent, behind the novel coronavirus disease of 2019. Children are amongst the most vulnerable groups affected by TB, and imaging manifestations are different in children when compared to adults. TB primarily involves the lungs and mediastinal lymph nodes. Clinical history, physical examination, laboratory examinations and various medical imaging tools are combined to establish the diagnosis. Even though chest radiography is the accepted initial radiological imaging modality for the evaluation of child...

Pulmonary sequelae of covid-19
SARS-CoV-2, the infectious agent that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), can infect multiple organ systems triggering an inflammatory response resulting in abnormalities in cellular and organ function. This can result in multiple symptoms and associated functional limitations. Respiratory symptoms in acute COVID-19 and in post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) are common and can range from mild and intermittent to severe and persistent, correlating with functional limitations. Whilst in more severe acute COVID-19 abnormalities on exam, pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry, chest radiography and cardiopulmona...

The association of clinically relevant variables with chest radiograph lung disease burden quantified in real-time by radiologists upon initial presentation in individuals hospitalized with COVID-19
We aimed to correlate lung disease burden on presentation chest radiographs (CXR), quantified at the time of study interpretation, with clinical presentation in patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Radiography students' lived experiences during the coronavirus pandemic: A letter to our peers
We hope you are doing well. We want to share our experiences as radiography students amid the COVID-19 pandemic in central South Africa. Like infants born during the pandemic, we are also referred to as COVID-Babies because the COVID-19 pandemic commenced in our first year as radiography students. We were on campus for only two months when the South African national alert level 5 lockdown started at midnight on 26 March 2020. Our government instructed us to return home, which for most of us was outside the city where the campus is based.

The Risk Factors and Outcomes for Radiological Abnormalities in Early Convalescence of COVID-19 Patients Caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Variant: A Retrospective, Multicenter Follow-up Study
CONCLUSION: The higher IL-6 level was a common independent risk factor for CT abnormalities at baseline and residual pulmonary abnormalities at 1-month follow-up. There were no obvious radiographic changes during the early convalescent stage in patients with residual pulmonary abnormalities.PMID:36852851 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e55
