CONCLUSION: This study confirmed the negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on health-related quality of life and its determinants in patients with PD and their caregivers. Correlation between relative age-standardized mortality rates and COVID-19 mortality over time in Italy
CONCLUSIONS: These results would suggest that COVID-19 may have largely contributed to excess mortality in Italy until the recent emergence of the Omicron variant, by which time previous loss of vulnerable people and radical changes in delivering healthcare may have paradoxically contributed to improve the cumulative death rate in the country.PMID:37092624 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v94i2.14139

When Jeremy Kamil started to sequence samples of the rapidly spreading pandemic coronavirus in the spring of 2020, it was clear where he should deposit the genetic data: in GISAID , a long-running database for influenza genomes that had established itself as the go-to repository for SARS-CoV-2 as well. Kamil, a virologist at Louisiana State University’s (LSU’s) Health Sciences Center Shreveport, says he quickly struck up a friendly relationship with a Steven Meyers, who used a gisaid.org email address. The two often exchanged emails and talked on the phone, sometimes for hours, about the pandemic and data sh...

Dream changes across the first three waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy.
Dreaming, Vol 33(2), Jun 2023, 105-120; doi:10.1037/drm0000238The 2019 novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has strongly impacted the world. Recent research findings found significant effects of the pandemic on dreaming. We investigated sociodemographic, COVID-19-related variables, and oneiric activity (by the Most Recent Dream) during the first, the second, and the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in three matched samples, for a total of 600 Italian adult subjects (82.7% women; aged 18–81 years, M = 30.4, SD = 13.3). Results indicated that: (a) the majority of participants were medium recallers; (b) during the first wave of ...
