Sit to stand test and handgrip strength in men and women with post-COVID-19 syndrome without invasive ventilator support: insights from a Brazilian observational study
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2023.2495. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo valid tests have been used in patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome (coronavirus disease 2019) due to their fast application, feasibility, and accessible procedures, facilitating data collection in large groups: the 1-minute sit-to-stand test (STS) and handgrip strength (HGS) dynamometry. The present study aimed to: i) assess the STS and HGS in men and women with post-COVID-19 syndrome who did not require invasive ventilator support; ii) correlate STS repetitions and HGS with time since the COVID-19 diagnosis. Six hundred ...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1933: Unraveling the Dynamics of Omicron (BA.1, BA.2, and BA.5) Waves and Emergence of the Deltacton Variant: Genomic Epidemiology of the SARS-CoV-2 Epidemic in Cyprus (Oct 2021 & ndash;Oct 2022)
This study offers a comprehensive assessment spanning genetic, phylogenetic, phylodynamic, and phylogeographic dimensions, focused on the trajectory of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Cyprus. Based on a dataset comprising 4700 viral genomic sequences obtained from affected individuals between October 2021 and October 2022, our analysis is presented. Over this timeframe, a total of 167 distinct lineages and sublineages emerged, including variants such as Delta and Omicron (1, 2, and 5). Notably, during the fifth wave of infections, Omicron subvariants 1 and 2 gained prominence, followed by the ascendancy of Omicron 5 in the subs...

Impact of the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sleep patterns of a Brazilian population sample
Chronobiol Int. 2023 Sep 12:1-13. doi: 10.1080/07420528.2023.2255667. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHumanitarian and health crisis have drastic effects on the physical and mental well-being of people. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many countries to impose containment measures on its population to halt the spread of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). This aim of this study was to explore self-reported sleep quality and insomnia symptoms in a sample of the Brazilian population before and during the COVID-19 quarantine period. Our data was collected through online questionnaires, including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, th...
