A scoping review of emotions and related constructs in simulation-based education research articles
CONCLUSIONS: Our scoping review illustrates that learners in simulation-based education are most often anxious and fearful. However, this is partially due to medical education prioritising measuring negative emotions. Further theoretical integration when examining emotions and stress may help broaden the scope towards other kinds of emotions and better conceptualisations of their impact. We call for simulation education researchers to reflect on how they understand emotions, and whether their understanding may neglect any specific aspect of affective experiences their simulation participants may have.PMID:37717029 | DOI:10...

Revisiting the academic self-concept transcultural measurement model: The case of Spain and China
CONCLUSION: These two differences may be behind the difficulty in finding invariance using SEM models. It is a question of the construct's nature, less related to analytical phenomena, and deserves deeper discussion.PMID:37715352 | DOI:10.1111/bjep.12635

Accommodating Students with Disabilities: Fieldwork Educators' Experiences
Conclusion. Fieldwork educators can work with students to align their accommodations with required learning outcomes for professional practice and use their occupational therapy skills to assist with implementation. Fieldwork educators require time and other supports to work effectively with all students.PMID:37715626 | DOI:10.1177/00084174231201703

School-based supplementation with iron-folic acid or multiple micronutrient tablets to address anemia among adolescents in Burkina Faso: a cluster-randomized trial
CONCLUSIONS: Results do not provide strong evidence that weekly IFA or daily MMS supplementation alone is effective, but supplementation may play a role in addressing adolescent anemia if combined with co-interventions. Additional research is required to determine the best strategy to address anemia.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04657640 TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT04657640, registered December 8, 2020.PMID:37716443 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2023.09.004

"I have a special prayer 'O Lord, open my lips'": Experiences of ultra-Orthodox educators after their students' disclosures of sexual abuse
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the importance of ultra-Orthodox educators in identifying CSA and leading interventions. It also raises the need for training to combine reflective, cultural-based practice and support for the educator to maintain their wellbeing. Despite this community's uniqueness, the current findings may be relevant to professionals and policymakers regarding other closed and religious communities and diverse educational settings confronting CSA.PMID:37716087 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2023.106449

Uptake of signposting to web-based resources: pregnant women's use of a preventive web-based intervention
CONCLUSION: The data offer unique opportunities to assess the utilisation of a web-based mental health-promotion intervention following advice from a clinician. This study draws conclusions about which patients are likely to access similar resources and which practice characteristics encourage their use.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Registered in clinicaltrials.gov, Trial number: NCT04129359 Date of registration: 16/10/2019 ( https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04129359 ).PMID:37716967 | PMC:PMC10504765 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02130-5

Evaluation of a pilot to introduce simulated learning activities to support speech and language therapy students' clinical development
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: Student experience of simulation was positive. One of the key elements students found to support their clinical skills was the importance of the safe space; support for learning instead of correction led them to engage in active learning. Key barriers to simulation related to having sufficient prior knowledge, the skills of the facilitator, group size and the wider learning landscape of the programme. In response to this pilot, there are plans to continue developing this model of simulation and embed simulation across the programme, led by a sound pedagogical approach with clear preparation and ...

Ensuring treatment fidelity in intervention studies: Developing a checklist and scoring system within a behaviour change paradigm
CONCLUSIONS: Results emphasise the importance of training quality, practice and reflective opportunities and clear materials to promote treatment fidelity. The construction of the checklist and scoring system was described in detail, informing the development of future checklists. After further trialling, the checklist can be used to ensure the M-DLS is delivered with high treatment fidelity in the comparison trial.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on this subject Treatment fidelity is an essential component of intervention effectiveness and efficacy studies, ensuring the intervention is delivered as intended. It...
