Food allergy quality of life and living with food allergy
Purpose of review: Food allergy quality of life (QoL) has emerged as a key outcome to understand how food-allergic individuals and their families live with disease. Food allergy QoL has been measured since the early 2000's, but in the past 10–12 years, the advent of disease-specific indices has better defined the daily psychological burden of living with disease, which is distinct from measuring quality life in other chronic illnesses where affected patients suffer from more physical symptoms which may cause measurable shifts in disease status. Latex sensitization in patients with myelomeningocele: contribution of microarray technique.
Conclusion. Both methods are effective in assisting the diagnosis of latex allergy, but differ in the assessment of sensitized pediatric patients with myelomeningocele. Evaluation of a polysaccharide gel for laser-assisted skull base repair.
CONCLUSION: LTW using a polysaccharide gel is capable of creating mucosal repairs capable of withstanding over four times normal ICP without additional grafting materials. Nasal septal perforation repair using intranasal rotation and advancement flaps.
CONCLUSION: Combined use of intranasal advancement and rotation flaps is a safe and promising option for surgical repair of moderate to large septal perforation. Effectiveness of lumbar drains on recurrence rates in endoscopic surgery of cerebrospinal fluid leaks.

Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate Prevents Autoimmune-Associated Down-Regulation of p21 in Salivary Gland Cells Through a p53-Independent Pathway.
In conclusion, PCNA and p21 levels are altered inversely in the NOD model for SS and in HSG cells, and warrant further study as candidate new markers for salivary dysfunction associated with xerostomia. Differences in skull base thickness in patients with spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leaks.
CONCLUSION: Differences in skull base thickness exist in SCSF patients, but whether this predisposes to such leaks or is a consequence of the underlying pathophysiology remains unknown. The endoscopic endonasal approach provides a highly effective means of repairing such leaks with success rates comparable with the endoscopic repair of other leak types. Inhibitory effect of prostaglandin E2 on the migration of nasal fibroblasts.
CONCLUSION: PGE2 inhibited the migration of nasal fibroblasts via the EP2 and EP4 receptors, and this inhibition was mediated by cAMP elevation. Targeting specific EP receptors could offer therapeutic opportunities for conditions such as delayed wound healing after nasal surgery. PMID: 24980222 [PubMed - in process]

Passive smoke exposure in chronic rhinosinusitis as assessed by hair nicotine.
CONCLUSION: There is no clear evidence of avoidance of passive smoke exposure in the CRS population compared with controls. Passive smoke exposure also remained stable over time despite recent regional implementation of smoking bans. Given the constancy of exposure, it is critical that the impact of passive smoke on CRS exacerbation, outcomes, and pathophysiology be evaluated in large-scale clinical studies. Spontaneous CSF rhinorrhea: Prevalence of multiple simultaneous skull base defects.
CONCLUSION: A significant number of patients with spontaneous CSF rhinorrhea may have more than one skull base defect present at the time of presentation. Endoscopic cerebrospinal fluid leak closure in an infected field.
CONCLUSION: Endoscopic closure of skull base defects was successfully performed in nine patients during acute infections without complications, recurrent infection, or need for revision CSF leak closure.
