The feasibility of (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography uptake as a prognostic factor for paranasal sinus malignancy.
CONCLUSION: In our study, we concluded that subjects with higher tumor FDG uptakes should be considered for a more aggressive disease. PMID: 23562200 [PubMed - in process]

Schneiderian papillomas: Comparative review of exophytic, oncocytic, and inverted types.
CONCLUSION: The inverted and exophytic type are the most common sinonasal papillomas, with the inverted type having an 8% rate of malignant transformation in this study. In contrast, the oncocytic type was not associated with dysplasia or malignancy in our series despite reports in the literature indicating malignant potential. History of CRS and papilloma location can provide clues to the histological subtype, which is important for surgical planning and patient counseling. PMID: 23883810 [PubMed - in process]

Management of radiation-induced early nasal adhesion after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: Therapeutic endoscopy in combination with nasal steroid sprays and nasal irrigation provides a convenient, simple, effective, and minimally invasive therapy to treat early radiation-induced nasal adhesion patients. PMID: 23883797 [PubMed - in process]

The immunoexpression of CD34, Bcl-2, and Ki-67 antigens in sinonasal inverted papillomas.
CONCLUSION: Our findings underscore importance of angiogenesis in the development and prognosis of IP and support further investigation of this aspect of IP tumor growth. PMID: 24717877 [PubMed - in process]

Management of sinonasal mucosal melanomas and comparison of classification staging systems.
CONCLUSIONS: Our experience confirms the distribution of patients according to survival rates was better with the TNM-SMM than with Thompson's or the TNM-CAR systems. PMID: 25590317 [PubMed - in process]

Critical appraisal of androgen use in hereditary angioedema: A systematic review.
CONCLUSION: Androgen therapy may be effective for most patients with HAE; however, potential risks and adverse effects must be carefully considered and discussed with patients when considering options for long-term HAE prophylaxis. PMID: 25707325 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sorafenib Induces Delayed-Onset Cutaneous Hypersensitivity: A Case Series.
Authors: Sohn KH, Oh SY, Lim KW, Kim MY, Lee SY, Kang HR Abstract Sorafenib is an oral multikinase inhibitor with clinical activity against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and renal cell carcinoma. Administration of sorafenib carries a variety of adverse cutaneous reactions. Common adverse effects induced by sorafenib include hand-foot skin reactions, facial erythema, splinter subungual hemorrhage, and alopecia. Although erythema multiforme (EM) related to sorafenib has been reported, delayed-type cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions are rare in patients treated with sorafenib and there has been no case of Stevens-J...

Nasal cytological changes as late effects of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer.
CONCLUSION: Radiation therapy induces late nasal mucosal changes, which may be related to clinical consequences, such as abundant mucus production and its consequent endonasal stagnation. In the future, detailed knowledge of cytological changes in patients' nasal mucosa could represent a key prerequisite for the choice of effective interventions for late radiation-induced rhinitis. Role of Wnt signaling pathway in progression of sinonasal inverted papilloma to squamous cell carcinoma.
CONCLUSIONS: Wnt signaling proteins, including beta-catenin, cyclin D1, and Dvl-1, may play crucial roles in the malignant transformation of IP. PMID: 25975243 [PubMed - in process]

Human Leukocyte Antigens Influence the Antibody Response to Hepatitis B Vaccine.
Abstract Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and its sequelae such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma has remained a serious public health problem throughout the world. The WHO strategy for effective control of HBV infection and its complications is mass vaccination of neonates and children within the framework of Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). Vaccination with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) induces protective antibody response (anti-HBs ≥ 10 IU/L) in 90-99% of vaccinees. The lack of response to HBsAg has been attributed to a variety of  immunological mechanisms, including defect in anti...

Squamous cell carcinoma antigen as a diagnostic marker of nasal inverted papilloma.
CONCLUSION: Serum SCCA level is a reliable diagnostic marker to distinguish new and recurrent IP from inflammatory disease. Because smokers tended to have higher SCCA levels in IP, a different cutoff level might be needed. Although respiratory dysfunction and skin disease were not related to SCCA level, they should be taken into consideration when evaluating SCCA level. Outcomes of sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma with and without association of inverted papilloma: A multi-institutional analysis.
CONCLUSION: Although SCC with and without IP association are considered different diseases, their demographics and outcomes seem similar. Nodal metastasis was noted to be higher in the SCC cohort, which may indicate different tumor biology. Further study is warranted. PMID: 28859706 [PubMed - in process]
