Toxoplasmosis mimicking CMV chorioretinitis in newly diagnosed PLWH: a case report
CONCLUSIONS: despite progressive developments in the management of PLWH, in this case two different kind of opportunistic infection are found in a late-presenter patient. In particular, two aspects can be highlighted. The first one is that, in the setting of an highly impaired immune system, clinical presentation can be deceptive and more than one opportunistic infection can be observed together in the same patient. The second aspect is that after starting antiretroviral therapy, a rapid improvement of viro-immunologic parameters has been documented, probably leading to an immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS)...

Human milk oligosaccharides: potential therapeutic aids for allergic diseases
Trends Immunol. 2023 Jul 11:S1471-4906(23)00111-4. doi: 10.1016/j.it.2023.06.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChildhood allergy, including asthma, eczema, and food allergies, is a major global health burden, with prevalence increasing dramatically and novel interventions needed. Emerging research suggests that human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), complex glycans found in breastmilk, have allergy-protective properties, indicating exciting therapeutic potential. This review evaluates current literature on the role of HMOs in allergy, assesses underlying immunological mechanisms, and discusses future research needed to trans...

Cohort-driven variant burden analysis and pathogenicity identification in monogenic autoinflammatory disorders
Nearly 50 pathogenic genes and hundreds of pathogenic variants have been identified in monogenic autoinflammatory diseases (AIDs). Nonetheless, there are still many genes for which the pathogenic mechanisms are poorly understood, and the pathogenicity of many candidate variants needs to be determined.
