Sustainable integrated process for cogeneration of oxidants for VOCs removal
This study upgrades the sustainability of environmental electrochemical technologies with a novel approach consisting of the in-situ cogeneration and use of two important oxidants, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and Caro's acid (H2SO5), manufactured with the same innovative cell. This reactor was equipped with a gas diffusion electrode (GDE) to generate cathodically H2O2, from oxygen reduction reaction, a boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode to obtain H2SO5, via anodic oxidation of dilute sulfuric acid, and a proton exchange membrane to separate the anodic and the cathodic compartment, preventing the scavenging effect of the inte...

Deinterpenetration of IRMOF-9
Chemistry. 2023 Sep 15:e202302856. doi: 10.1002/chem.202302856. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the iconic characteristics of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is the possesssion of guest-accessible pores. Increasing pore size has a direct and often beneficial impact on a MOF's adsorption and separation properties. However, as pore size increases, the resulting void spaces are often filled by interpenetrated frameworks, where one or more networks crystallize within the pore system of another identical network, reducing the MOF's free volume and pore size. Furthermore, due to the thermodynamic favorability of interpenetr...

Effects of solvent extracted organic matter from outdoor air pollution on human type II pneumocytes: Molecular and proteomic analysis
Environ Pollut. 2023 Sep 13:122551. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122551. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOutdoor air pollution is responsible for the exacerbation of respiratory diseases in humans. Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm (PM2.5) is one of the main components of outdoor air pollution, and solvent extracted organic matter (SEOM) is adsorbed to the main PM2.5 core. Some of the biological effects of black carbon and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which are components of PM2.5, are known, but the response of respiratory cell lineages to SEOM exposure has not been described until now. The aim o...
