Measles, mumps and rubella vaccine 12 months after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
The objectives of this study were to evaluate when patients received MMR vaccine after an HSCT in our care service and if there were reports of any side effects. We retrospectively reviewed the records of HSCT recipients who received at least one MMR dose in our care service, a quaternary teaching hospital in Sao Paulo city, Brazil, from 2017 to 2021. We identified 82 patients: 75.6% (90.1% in the autologous group and 45.1% in the allogeneic group) were vaccinated before 23 months post-transplantation. None reported side effects following the vaccination. Our data support that the MMR vaccination is safe from 12 to 23 mont...

What's in a number? The value of titers as routine proof of immunity for medical students
CONCLUSIONS: The requirement of numerical, non-standardized serologic testing highlights an oversight in medical school admissions documentation. The requirement for quantitative values to demonstrate immunity is not practical from a laboratory standpoint, and is not needed to show individual immunity to these vaccine-preventable diseases. Until a more standardized process is adopted, laboratories will need to provide clear documentation and direction for quantitative titer requests.PMID:36948982 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.03.009

Inclusion of vaccination into clinical pathways for COPD and asthma: current challenges and future perspectives in Italy
CONCLUSIONS: Italian CPWs still pay little attention to the topic of vaccinations in patients with COPD and asthma. CPWs are required to be updated in the future being compliant with the national immunization schedule recommendations.PMID:36942681 | DOI:10.19191/EP23.1-2.A521.015

Quantification of waning immunity after measles vaccination - evidence from a seroprevalence study
Am J Epidemiol. 2023 Mar 17:kwad065. doi: 10.1093/aje/kwad065. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to quantify waning rates from seroprevalence data collected in a study of population with a high vaccination coverage and fixed vaccination schedule. Data were collected during the national Immunologic Survey in the Slovak Republic in 2018. The average waning rate after the first dose (age 1.5 - 10 years) is 9.7% per year from the geometric mean titre (GMT) value 2634 mUI/ml. The average waning rate after the second dose (age 10 - 33 years) is significantly lower, 4.8% per year from the lower GMT value 133...

Differential coverage for vaccines in the expanded program on immunization (EPI) among children in rural Pakistan
CONCLUSION: Vaccine coverage was low among children in Matiari, Pakistan, and majority received delayed doses. Parents' education status and year of study enrollment was protective against vaccine dropout and delayed vaccination whereas geographical distance from a major road was a predictor. Vaccine promotion and outreach efforts may have had a beneficial impact on vaccine coverage and timeliness.PMID:36933984 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.03.007

Changes in vaccination administration in Japan
Vaccine. 2023 Mar 16:S0264-410X(23)00282-7. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.03.020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper reviews the administration related to vaccination in Japan after the enactment of the Immunization Act in 1948, under which vaccination was implemented mandatory for the public. To enhance the effectiveness of vaccination activities, the government implemented group vaccination, which is convenient for vaccinating recipients all at once. In 1976, Japan established the relief system for health damage after vaccination. While some projects, such as the mass administration of live oral polio vaccine in 1961...

Second Dose Measles Vaccination Utilization and Associated Factors in Jabitehnan District, Northwest Ethiopia
CONCLUSION: Second dose measles vaccination utilization in the district was lower than the national target. Maternal education, distances from vaccination site, information about MCV2, and knowledge about immunization were significantly associated variables with second dose measles vaccination utilization. Therefore, in order to increase the utilization of the second dose of the measles vaccine, improved health education and service expansion to difficult-to-reach areas are required.PMID:36923301 | PMC:PMC10009019 | DOI:10.1177/15593258231164042
