Frozen Shoulder: Diagnosis and Management
Curr Sports Med Rep. 2023 Sep 1;22(9):307-312. doi: 10.1249/JSR.0000000000001097.ABSTRACTFrozen shoulder is a common condition that causes pain and restriction of movement of the shoulder unrelated to secondary causes. It has three classic phases (freezing, frozen, and thawing), and is resolved in most cases within 1 to 2 years. Diagnosis is clinical based on global motion restriction and pain. Imaging plays an ancillary role to narrow the differential diagnosis. Physical therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, and injection therapies are standard treatments, although none have been shown to alter the long-term course o...

The effects of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation on visual memory performance and fatigue
CONCLUSION: Our study results show that taVNS can produce positive effects on visual memory performance, although it does not apparently affect fatigue.PMID:37674794 | PMC:PMC10478543 | DOI:10.5606/tftrd.2023.11174

Moderate to Vigorous Intensity Locomotor Training After Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Mean Effects and Response Variability
CONCLUSIONS: LTmv improves mean walking capacity outcomes in subacute and chronic stroke and does not appear to have high risk of serious harm. Response magnitude varies within and between chronicity subgroups, and few studies have tested effects on daily walking activity or non-serious AEs.Video Abstract available for more insights from the authors (see the Video, Supplemental Digital Content 1 available at: http://links.lww.com/JNPT/A452).PMID:37678805 | DOI:10.1097/NPT.0000000000000456

Italian Orthopaedic and Traumatology Society (SIOT) position statement on the non-surgical management of knee osteoarthritis
ConclusionsFor non-surgical management of knee OA, the recommended first step is to bring about lifestyle changes, particularly management of body weight combined with physical exercise and/or hydrotherapy. For acute symptoms, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), topic or oral, can be used. Opioids can only be used as third-line pharmacological treatment. Glucosamine and chondroitin are also suggested as chronic pharmacological treatment. Regarding intra-articular infiltrative therapy, the use of hyaluronic acid is recommended in cases of chronic knee OA [platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as second line), in the absenc...
