Pneumococcal vaccination coverage at the initiation of chronic dialysis, and its association with mortality during the first year
CONCLUSIONS: Pneumococcal immunization with PCV13 followed by PPSV23, or with PCV13 alone, but not with PPSV23 alone, is independently associated with decreased one year-mortality in patients who start dialysis.PMID:37179164 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.003

Fight Aging! Newsletter, February 13th 2023
This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...

Rates of Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccination and Correlation With Survival in Multiple Myeloma Patients
CONCLUSION: Vaccination is important in MM and should be encouraged. Vaccination status should be recorded in prospective clinical trials as it may affect survival. This trial was registered at www.CLINICALTRIALS: gov as #NCT02761187.PMID:36641358 | DOI:10.1016/j.clml.2022.12.003

Influenza and pneumococcal vaccination and COVID-19 in kidney transplant patients
CONCLUSION: The observations made throughout this study suggest that influenza and pneumococcal vaccination in transplant patients may reduce the risk of COVID-19 disease and provide additional benefits during the pandemic period.PMID:35963562 | PMC:PMC9365519 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2022.101693

Pneumococcal vaccination coverage among adults newly diagnosed with underlying medical conditions and regional variation in the U.S
CONCLUSION: Pneumococcal vaccination remains low and most adults with underlying conditions are unvaccinated. Insights into factors associated with vaccination, including regional variability, can help to increase pneumococcal vaccination.PMID:35803847 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.06.068

Immunogenicity and safety of double dosage of pneumococcal vaccines in adult kidney transplant recipients and waiting list patients: A non-blinded, randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Data suggests that double dosage of pneumococcal vaccines used according to the prime-boost strategy might be recommendable for WLPs. Furthermore, our data supports PPV23́s additive effect to PCV13 in KTRs and WLPs. (EudraCT: 2016-004123-23).PMID:35644672 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.05.040
