Male kidney-specific BMAL1 knockout mice are protected from Potassium-deficient, high salt diet-induced blood pressure increases
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00126.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe circadian clock protein BMAL1 is a transcription factor that impacts kidney function, including blood pressure (BP) control. Previously, we showed that male, but not female, kidney-specific cadherin Cre positive BMAL1 knockout mice (KS-BMAL1 KO) exhibit lower BP compared to littermate controls. The goal of this study was to determine the BP phenotype and immune response in male KS-BMAL1 KO in response to a low potassium, high salt diet (LKHS). BP, renal inflammatory markers and immune cells were measured in male mic...

Renal outcomes in older adults with antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody-associated vasculitis: a new prediction model
CONCLUSION: We established a risk-scoring system based on baseline clinical characteristics to predict composite renal outcomes in patients with AAV. Our results suggest that more attention should be paid to older patients with severe renal impairment and active inflammation.PMID:37708862 | DOI:10.1159/000533512

Clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of lupus nephritis patients with acute kidney injury
CONCLUSIONS: LN patients with AKI stage 3, but not stage 1 and 2, have poorer long-term renal outcomes and patient survival. Our study demonstrates the importance of early identification and management of AKI in LN patients.PMID:37708856 | DOI:10.1159/000533847

Risk factors of worsening kidney function and mortality in patients with renal vein thrombosis: a retrospective study
CONCLUSION: Renal vein thrombosis is associated with a high rate of worsening kidney function and mortality. It is crucial to promptly identify patients at high risk and initiate early treatment to prevent negative outcomes.PMID:37702914 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01761-2
