Pneumococcal vaccination coverage at the initiation of chronic dialysis, and its association with mortality during the first year
CONCLUSIONS: Pneumococcal immunization with PCV13 followed by PPSV23, or with PCV13 alone, but not with PPSV23 alone, is independently associated with decreased one year-mortality in patients who start dialysis.PMID:37179164 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.003

Dialysis modality, humoral response to vaccine, and SARS-CoV-2 infection risk: Comparative prospective evaluation
CONCLUSION: This study found a high antibody response rate after the third and fourth doses of BNT162b2 vaccine among dialysis patients. Hemodialysis as dialysis modality is an important predictor of COVID-19 infection, despite similar humoral responses to vaccine in peritoneal dialysis.PMID:37042666 | DOI:10.1111/sdi.13155

Effects of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination on the severity of COVID-19 infection in patients on chronic dialysis
CONCLUSIONS: This study supports the use of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination to improve COVID-19 outcomes in patients on chronic dialysis.PMID:37017924 | PMC:PMC10074356 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01617-9

Humeral and cellular immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in patients on peritoneal dialysis
CONCLUSIONS: Both vaccines were safe and resulted in comparable antibody seroconversion in PD patients when compared with volunteers. However, mRNA-1273 vaccine induced significantly higher antibody and T cell response than ChAdOx1-S in PD patients. Booster doses are recommended for PD patients after two doses of ChAdOx1-S vaccination.PMID:36894486 | PMC:PMC9970921 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.02.011

A pilot trial of Thymalfasin (Ta1) to prevent covid-19 infection and morbidities in renal dialysis patients: Preliminary report
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Mar 2;117:109950. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.109950. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis (HD) are considered particularly susceptible to infection with SARS-CoV2 on the basis of the immunodeficiency associated with advanced age, comorbidity burden, medication use, and need for frequent visits to dialysis clinics. In prior studies, thymalfasin (thymosin alpha 1, Ta1) has been shown to enhance antibody response to influenza vaccine and reduce influenza infection in geriatric populations, including hemodialysis patients, when used as an ...

Egyptian hemodialysis patients' willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine booster dose: a multicenter survey
CONCLUSION: COVID-19 booster-dose hesitancy among HD patients in Egypt represents a major concern, is associated with vaccine hesitancy with respect to other vaccines and emphasizes the need to develop effective strategies to increase vaccine uptake.PMID:36862285 | PMC:PMC9979119 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01586-z
