Diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum in high-risk women using ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging: systematic review to compare accuracy of tests
CONCLUSION: US and MRI have similar accuracy characteristics for PAS diagnosis. These results suggest that, in settings with high prevalence of risk factors, the screening for PAS should start with the most available test or the one which the providers are more apt to interpret. Second and third trimester estimation of gestational age using ultrasound or maternal symphysis-fundal height measurements: A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: There is considerable methodological heterogeneity in studies developing equations for estimating GA. Formulas using ultrasound-based measurements more accurately estimated GA after 20 weeks than formulas using SFH measurement. While the clinical priority remains promotion of early engagement with antenatal care, we suggest unified standards for GA and growth assessment.PMID:35157348 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17123

Intima-media thickness in treated and untreated patients with and without familial hypercholesterolemia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
J Clin Lipidol. 2022 Feb 1:S1933-2874(22)00025-3. doi: 10.1016/j.jacl.2022.01.009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFamilial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common genetic disorder of lipoprotein metabolism leading to premature atherosclerosis. From early onset, status and progression of atherosclerosis of the large peripheral arterial walls can be quantified by ultrasound intima-media thickness (IMT) measurements. Here we describe differences in IMT in treated and untreated FH patients versus unaffected controls over a broad age range. We conducted a systematic literature search using MEDLINE, EMBASE and Trials.gov up to Apri...

Routine vaginal examinations compared to other methods for assessing progress of labour to improve outcomes for women and babies at term
CONCLUSIONS: Based on these findings, we cannot be certain which method is most effective or acceptable for assessing labour progress. Further large-scale RCT trials are required. These should include essential clinical and experiential outcomes. This may be facilitated through the development of a tool to measure positive birth experiences. Data from qualitative studies are also needed to fully assess whether methods to evaluate labour progress meet women's needs for a safe and positive labour and birth, and if not, to develop an approach that does.PMID:35244935 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD010088.pub3

Focal prostate cancer therapy in the era of multiparametric MRI: a review of options and outcomes
CONCLUSION: For localized MRI-visible prostate cancer, early clinical trial data demonstrate that focal therapy can provide good to moderate cancer control while having preferable side effect profiles compared to whole-gland treatments. While current studies do not make head-to-head comparisons between technologies, early data suggest a potential for these technologies to provide adequate cancer control in a well-selected patient population. The oncologic outcomes of some focal therapies appear promising; however, longer-term follow-up data are needed to assess the durability of early outcomes.PMID:35246609 | DOI:10.1038/s41391-022-00501-0

Evaluation of antenatal Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) training: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: PoCUS performed by upskilled healthcare professionals offers an attractive solution to the problem of inequitable access to antenatal ultrasound. A review of available literature highlighted a paucity of comparable high-quality studies needed to establish a stronger evidence base for antenatal PoCUS, and a need to standardise training and competency assessment. This review may inform educators, researchers and policy-makers on existing training formats and methodologies to assist in establishing best practice antenatal PoCUS training methods for safe service delivery by remote healthcare professionals.PMID:3538...

Distal biceps tendon ruptures: more efficient diagnostics for a better outcome
Acta Orthop Belg. 2022 Mar;88(1):160-167. doi: 10.52628/88.1.20.ABSTRACTDistal biceps tendon ruptures are a rare pathology, but can have significant functional repercussions. Rapid, accurate diagnosis and treatment are essential for a favorable prognosis. During the diagnostic process of distal biceps tendon ruptures, several problems can emerge. An answer to the following clinical questions is given based on an extensive literature review. - Which clinical tests are the most sensitive/ specific for clinical examination? - Can ultrasound evaluation of the distal biceps tendon be optimized? - Is ultrasound an equivalent alt...
