Skeletal and dental maxillary morphological characteristics in patients with impacted canines: systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Studies demonstrated the reduction of both dentoalveolar and skeletal maxillary parameters of the patients with PIC. The meta-analysis indicated that PIC correlates to both vertical and transverse skeletal dimensions of the maxilla. However, the results remain controversial. The findings should be interpreted with caution due to different study designs and unbalanced groups in the included studies; therefore, further research is needed for more reliable conclusions.REGISTRATION: This systematic review and meta-analysis were registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO CR...

Is the Internet a Suitable Patient Resource for Information on Common Radiological Investigations?
Conclusions Although readability is adequate, the overall quality of radiology-related health-care information on the Internet is poor. High-quality online resources should be identified so that patients may avoid the use of poor-quality information derived from general search engine queries.

Up-regulation of heme oxygenase-1 by celastrol alleviates oxidative stress and vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease
Free Radic Biol Med. 2021 Jun 23:S0891-5849(21)00385-3. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2021.06.020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVascular calcification is very commonly observed in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but there is no efficient therapy available. Oxidative stress plays critical roles in the progression of vascular calcification. Celastrol (Cel), a natural constituent derived from Chinese herbals, exhibits anti-oxidative stress activity. Here, we investigated the effect of celastrol on vascular calcification using vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), arterial rings and CKD rats. Alizarin red staining ...

Nicotine promotes vascular calcification via intracellular Ca2+-mediated, Nox5-induced oxidative stress and extracellular vesicle release in vascular smooth muscle cells
CONCLUSION: In this study we provide evidence that nicotine induces Nox5-mediated pro-calcific processes as novel mechanism of increased atherosclerotic calcification. We identified that activation of α7 and α3 nAChR by nicotine increases intracellular Ca2+ and initiates calcification of hVSMCs through increased Nox5 activity, leading to oxidative stress-mediated EV release. Identifying the role of Nox5-induced oxidative stress opens novel avenues for diagnosis and treatment of smoking-induced cardiovascular disease.PMID:34273166 | DOI:10.1093/cvr/cvab244

Nanog/NFATc1/Osterix signaling pathway-mediated promotion of bone formation at the tendon-bone interface after ACL reconstruction with De-BMSCs transplantation
CONCLUSIONS: De-BMSCs transplantation could promote bone formation at the tendon-bone interface after ACLR and improve the biomechanical strength of the reconstruction. The Nanog/NFATc1/Osterix signaling pathway mediated the enhanced osteogenic differentiation efficiency of De-BMSCs.PMID:34775995 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-021-02643-9

LncRNA RP3-326I13.1 promotes cisplatin resistance in lung adenocarcinoma by binding to HSP90B and upregulating MMP13
In conclusion, RP3-326I13.1 could promote DDP-resistance of LAD by binding to HSP90B and upregulating human matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) and may serve as a therapeutic target, as well as a biomarker for predicting DDP-resistance in LAD.Abbreviations:DDP: Cisplatin; LAD: Lung adenocarcinoma; LncRNAs: Long non-coding RNAs; qPCR: real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR; HSP90B: Heat shock protein HSP 90-beta; RPMI: Roswell Park Memorial Institute; FBS: Fetal bovine serum; CT: computed tomography; MRI: magnetic resonance imaging; RECIST: Response evaluation criteria in solid tumors; NC: Negative control; OE: overexpress...

Stereotactic radiotherapy and the potential role of magnetic resonance-guided adaptive techniques for pancreatic cancer
CONCLUSION: Therefore, SBRT may lead to improved survival outcomes and safer toxicity profiles compared to conventional techniques, and the addition of magnetic resonance-guided techniques potentially allows dose escalation and conversion of unresectable tumours to operable cases.PMID:35317275 | PMC:PMC8891728 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v28.i7.745
