Self-template sacrifice and in situ oxidation of a constructed hollow MnO < sub > 2 < /sub > nanozymes for smartphone-assisted colorimetric detection of liver function biomarkers
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Oct 16;1278:341744. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341744. Epub 2023 Aug 21.ABSTRACTLiver function tests play a vital role in accurately diagnosing liver diseases, monitoring treatment outcomes, and assessing liver damage severity. Here, we introduce a novel approach to develop a smartphone-assisted portable colorimetric sensor for rapid detection of three liver function biomarkers: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP). This sensor is based on the inherent enzyme-like activities of hollow MnO2 (H-MnO2). The H-MnO2 is synthesized via a self-template s...

Effects of aconitine on the respiratory activity of brainstem-spinal cord preparations isolated from newborn rats
Pflugers Arch. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1007/s00424-023-02857-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAconitine is a sodium channel opener, but its effects on the respiratory center are not well understood. We investigated the dose-dependent effects of aconitine on central respiratory activity in brainstem-spinal cord preparations isolated from newborn rats. Bath application of 0.5-5 μM aconitine caused an increase in respiratory rhythm and decrease in the inspiratory burst amplitude of the fourth cervical ventral root (C4). Separate application of aconitine revealed that medullary neurons were responsible for the respiratory rhythm...

Influence of sodium hypochlorite on cyclic fatigue resistance of nickel –titanium instruments: A systematic review and meta-analysis of in vitro studies
ConclusionNaOCl appears to reduce cyclic fatigue resistance of certain NiTi files, especially when they are pre-heated, particularly in conventional NiTi files compared to some heat-treated instruments. It is possible that the temperature of the solution may have a greater influence on resistance than NaOCl itself. Important to note that an overall tendency toward no significant influence was observed among various systems.Clinical relevancePrecautions are necessary when a pre-heated high-concentration NaOCl is used to enhance its properties during root canal preparation, mainly using conventional wire.

Selenium Ameliorates Acetaminophen-Induced Oxidative Stress via MAPK and Nrf2 Pathways in Mice
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03845-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOverdose of acetaminophen (paracetamol), a widely used non-prescriptive analgesic and antipyretic medication, is one of the main causes of drug-induced acute liver failure around the world. Oxidative stress contributes to this hepatotoxicity. Antioxidants are known to protect the liver from oxidative stress. Selenium, a potent antioxidant, is a commonly used micronutrient. Here, we evaluated the protective effect of selenium on acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity. Treating Wistar albino mice with sodium selenite (1 mg/kg) befo...
