Public perception of COVID-19 vaccines through analysis of Twitter content and users
This study successfully explores sentiment, emotion, topics, and user demographics to elucidate important trends in public perception about COVID-19 vaccines. While public perception trended positively over the study period, some trends, especially within certain topic and demographic clusters, are concerning for COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. These insights can provide targets for educational interventions and opportunity for continued real-time monitoring.PMID:37385887 | PMC:PMC10288320 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.06.058

β-Propiolactone (BPL)-inactivation of SARS-Co-V-2: in vitro validation with focus on saliva from COVID-19 patients for scent dog training
J Virol Methods. 2023 Apr 15:114733. doi: 10.1016/j.jviromet.2023.114733. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTβ-Propiolactone (BPL) is an organic compound widely used as an inactivating agent in vaccine development and production, for example for SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza viruses. Inactivation of pathogens by BPL is based on an irreversible alkylation of nucleic acids but also on acetylation and cross-linking between proteins, DNA or RNA. However, the protocols for BPL inactivation of viruses vary widely. Handling of infectious, enriched SARS-CoV-2 specimens and diagnostic samples from COVID-19 patients is recommended ...

This study investigated whether taller Polish adults live longer than their shorter counterparts. Data on declared height were available from 848,860 individuals who died in the years 2004-2008 in Poland. To allow for the cohort effect, the Z-values were generated. Separately for both sexes, Pearson's r coefficients of correlation were calculated. Subsequently, one way ANOVA was performed. The correlation between adult height and longevity was negative and statistically significant in both men and women. After eliminating the effects of secular trends in height, the correlation was very weak (r = -0.0044 in men and ...

Monitoring bromide loss in bromoacetyl-derivatized polyribosylribitol polysaccharide in Haemophilus influenzae type b for PedvaxHIB ® by capillary electrophoresis and NMR spectroscopy
Vaccine. 2022 Sep 17:S0264-410X(22)01122-7. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.09.026. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPedvaxHIB® is an effective pediatric vaccine for protecting infants from invasive gram-negative bacterium Haemophilus influenzae type b. It is a highly purified capsular polysaccharide, polyribosylribitol phosphate that is covalently linked to an outer membrane protein complex of Neisseria meningitidis. PRP is first derivatized with an organic linker, followed by the coupling of a butadiamine group, and then at the end terminal, a bromoacetyl group is attached for conjugation with thiolated OMPC. The stability of ...

Chromium Supplementation on the Growth Performance, Carcass Traits, Blood Constituents, and Immune Competence of Broiler Chickens Under Heat Stress: a Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-analysis
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2021 Aug 20. doi: 10.1007/s12011-021-02885-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSeveral studies have been conducted to assess the effects of supplemental dietary chromium (Cr) on broiler chickens under heat stress (HS) conditions, but the shape and strength of the associations between Cr supplementation and broiler chickens' responses to HS remain unclear. Therefore, the current systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the effectiveness and dose-response relationship of Cr. The results indicated non-linear dose-response associations between Cr supplementation and body mass gain (BMG), feed intake (...

In conclusion, a number of high-income countries, changes in health expectancies over time have not kept pace with the growth in life expectancy. That is, people are living longer but disability and poor health are occupying an increasing proportion of later life. Our findings suggest that countries still need to make significant progress to achieve the WHO's Decade of Healthy Ageing goal of healthier, longer lives for all.
