Network pharmacology and molecular docking to explore the mechanism of Sheng Xue Bao mixture against iron deficiency anemia
Medicine (Baltimore). 2023 Sep 15;102(37):e35012. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000035012.ABSTRACTBased on network pharmacology and molecular docking, we investigated the mechanism of action of Sheng Xue Bao mixture (SXBM) in treating iron deficiency anemia (IDA). We screened the HERB and traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform databases to identify the active ingredients and targets of SXBM. The targets associated with "iron deficiency anemia" were collected from GeneCards, TTD, and OMIM databases. A component-target interaction network was constructed using Cytoscape 3.8.2. The protein-p...

Adrenomedullin, transcriptionally regulated by vitamin D receptors, alleviates atherosclerosis in mice through suppressing AMPK-mediated endothelial ferroptosis
CONCLUSION: VDR inhibits ox-LDL-induced endothelial dysfunction and ferroptosis by regulating ADM transcription and acting on AMPK signaling pathway. Overexpression of VDR in Apoe-/- mice reduced lipid deposition and plaque area in the thoracic aorta of atherosclerotic mice.PMID:37688783 | DOI:10.1002/tox.23958

Accelerated Atherosclerosis in Beta Thalassemia
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00306.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChildren with Beta Thalassemia (BT) present with an increase in carotid intima-medial thickness, an early sign suggestive of premature atherosclerosis. However, it is unknown if there is a direct relationship between BT and atherosclerotic disease. To evaluate this, WT (littermates) and BT (Hbbth3/+) mice, both male and female, were placed on a 3-month high fat diet with low-density lipoprotein receptor suppression via overexpression of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) gain-of-function mutation ...

Transcriptomic Profiling Identifies Ferroptosis-Related Gene Signatures in Ischemic Muscle Satellite Cells Affected by Peripheral Artery Disease
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first report documenting that genes known to be involved in ferroptosis are differentially expressed in human skeletal muscle affected by PAD. Targeting ferroptosis may be a novel therapeutic strategy to reduce PAD myopathy.PMID:37675635 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.319518

Suberosin Alleviates Thiazolidinedione-Induced Cardiomyopathy in Diabetic Rats by Inhibiting Ferroptosis via Modulation of ACSL4-LPCAT3 and PI3K-AKT Signaling Pathways
In this study, we investigated the anti-ferroptosis effects of suberosin (SBR; a prenylated coumarin) in diabetic Sprague Dawley rats. Further, we assessed the effects of co-administration of SBR (30 and 90 mg/kg/day) with thiazolidinedione (TZ at 15 mg/kg) to mitigate TZ-induced cardiomyopathy in diabetic rats. Our results showed that cardiac output, stroke volume, left ventricle systolic and diastolic pressures were aggravated in diabetic rats treated with TZ alone after 4 weeks. TZ treatments induced ferroptosis as well as marked histoarchitecture disarrangements in rat cardiomyocytes. The study found that optimizing vo...

SIRT3 Regulates Clearance of Apoptotic Cardiomyocytes by Deacetylating Frataxin
CONCLUSIONS: The SIRT3-FXN axis has the potential to resolve cardiac inflammation by increasing macrophage efferocytosis and anti-inflammatory activities.PMID:37646156 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.323160
