Bacillus Calmette-Gu érin vaccination for protection against recurrent herpes labialis: a nested randomised controlled trial
EClinicalMedicine. 2023 Sep 11;64:102203. doi: 10.1016/j.eclinm.2023.102203. eCollection 2023 Oct.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Recurrences of herpes simplex virus (HSV) in the orofacial region (herpes labialis or cold sores) impact quality-of-life. We aimed to study whether the bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine can attenuate cold sore recurrences through off-target immunomodulatory effects.METHODS: In this nested randomised controlled trial within the multicentre, phase 3 BRACE trial, 6828 healthcare workers were randomised in 36 sites in Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil, to receive BCG-Denmark ...

Vaccination Coverage Among Adolescents Aged 13-17 Years - National Immunization Survey-Teen, United States, 2022
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2023 Aug 25;72(34):912-919. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7234a3.ABSTRACTThree vaccines are routinely recommended for adolescents to prevent pertussis, meningococcal disease, and cancers caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). CDC analyzed data from the 2022 National Immunization Survey-Teen for 16,043 adolescents aged 13-17 years to assess vaccination coverage. Birth cohort analyses were conducted to assess trends in vaccination coverage by age 13 years (i.e., before the 13th birthday) and by age 14 years (i.e., before the 14th birthday) among adolescents who were due for routine vaccination before and dur...

Optimal site of care for administration of extended half-life respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) antibodies to infants in the United States (US)
CONCLUSION: FOV within 5 days after birth hospitalization discharge for Medicaid infants is substantially lower than that of commercially insured infants. Approximately 1 in 4 Medicaid infants and 1 in 8 infants with commercial insurance did not have an outpatient visit within 5 days of birth hospitalization discharge. For US infants born during the RSV season, administration of extended half-life RSV antibodies in the newborn nursery prior to discharge would ensure optimal uptake and minimize access disparities.PMID:37586957 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.06.089

COVID-19 Vaccination Status Among Korean Pediatric Population With Comorbidities
J Korean Med Sci. 2023 Aug 14;38(32):e248. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e248.ABSTRACTThe pediatric population with comorbidities is a high-risk group for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). As of January 2023, the COVID-19 vaccination rate for at least two doses among Korean children 5-11 years is low at 1.1%. We summarized the COVID-19 vaccination status for the pediatric population (5-17 years) with comorbidities through July 2022 using the National Health Insurance Service database. Pediatric patients with comorbidities had higher vaccination rates than the general pediatric population (2.4% vs. 1.1% in 5-11-year-o...

Population Attributable Fraction of Non-Vaccination of COVID-19 Due to Vaccine Hesitancy, United States, 2021
Am J Epidemiol. 2023 Aug 8:kwad167. doi: 10.1093/aje/kwad167. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUnderstanding the extent of COVID-19 non-vaccination attributable to vaccine hesitancy versus other barriers can help prioritize approaches for increasing vaccination uptake. Using data from the CDC's Research and Development Survey, a nationally representative survey fielded from May 17 - June 30, 2021 (n=5,458), we examined the adjusted population attribution fraction (PAF) of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy attributed to non-vaccination by sociodemographic characteristics and health-related variables. Overall, the adjusted PAF of non-...
